@Somnath biswas, I have stayed at RBK (Buxa--Jungle-Lodge)of WB Forest Development Corporation recently (last week of September, 2010). It is just beside Railway line and is 5 minutes away from Rajabhatkhawa railway station, (In fact, you can see the station from the lodge). It is a nice, peaceful place just outside Buxa tiger Reserve entrance.
Although KanchanKanya Exp passes through Rajabhatkhawa station, but doesn't stop there, you will have to get down at Alipurduar Jn and take an auto to the lodge. It is around 18 km from Alipurduar Jn stn, and auto will take approx 80-100 ruppes.

One word of caution to all who want to visit Buxa Tiger Reserve this year. Normally, the reserve opens after 15th September(It is closed from 15th August to 15th September every year), this year the tiger safari has not opened yet(i.e. till 27th September), as there is some problem going on. You can still visit Jayanti and other places. Please collect latest information before planning a Jungle Safari inside Buxa.

Thanks Sumangc for your information. The guide (Pradip) informed me that it is closed because of Supreme Court order.

I am reaching Alipurduar on 24.12.2010. can someone provide latest information ?
Is there a separate tourist destination called Hatipota ?
Is there any restriction on visiting Bhutanghat & can it be visited in car ?
Thanks........

Hatipota is about 1 hr drive (may be 45 km)from Alipurduar. Only a forest bunglow is there for accommodation.

No restriction of visiting Bhutanghat but accomodation in Bhutanghat i.e north Raidak forest bunglow is suspended now. I was a great place to be before it shut down.

Haatipota & Bhutanghat(north Raidak) can both be reached by car.

Dear friend,
I was in Jayanti / Buxa region this December. I am providing you with some contact nos which may be helpful :-
1) Sri Bidyut Biswas (9832454875)- Guide in Alipurduar. He is well connected & may book your accommodation as per your requirement. You may also enjoy some of his tour plans.
2)Sri Uttam Roy (9832592852) - He is auto driver. He can act as a local resource person & can also provide various information.
3)Sri Uttam Burman (9832478218)- Driver. He is a cool fellow with some interesting jungle encouters to his credit.

Try to cover Coochbehar Raj Bari; it is very near to Alipurduar. I think it is closed on friday. Bhutan border is also close to Alipurduar & you may like to visit it.

I feel that covering everything in a single trip may make the tour very hectic unless you have sufficient time. So, you may plan accordingly.
--------Best wishes

Hi Jeetb! Thanks for your information. I think it will be helpful to me. Can you share your tour plan? It will help me immensely. How did you reach Jayanti? Where did you stay there? Is there any permission required to go to Jayanti? Or I can go Jayanti directly after reaching Alipurduar Station.

Recently I got a news that CESC holiday home in Jayanti is no more there. Can anybody say under which company that house now belongs to?

Any idea of "Akarshan Bono Banglow" at Lataguri - nearer to Gorumara Forest. Going there on 4th of February. Biplab @ 9733454779 booked it for us.

It is true that the CESC holiday home is not there in Jayanti anymore.

We visited Jayanti on 20th January. The Buxa tiger safari is closed due to some Supreme court order. We went to Jayanti instead which is a nice place.
When preparing to travel, lay out all your clothes and all your money. Then take half the clothes and twice the money.

Sorry gktapan I could not get back earlier. Due to last minute diversion from travel plan in the hills, we could not get any booking in the forests. We went to Alipurduar by Kanchenkanya express & were lodged in hotel Sinchula there. We visited Buxa & Jayanti by car since these are nearby. There is a forest check post which opens at around 8.00 / 8.30 AM where necessary permits are taken for entering the forests. I feel that more time spent in forest environment or in elephant safari & less time spent in roaming in cars, the more rewarding is the experience. Lataguri beside Gorumara reserve forest is a full fledged tourist spot. Both the weather & the food were enjoyable. Looking forward to hear from you about your trip------
