Info needed for Garhpanchkot trip this monsoon

I am planning for a weekend trip to Garpanchkot this monsoon season. I will be staying in the wbfdc resort. All i want to know is without personal vehichle how feasible it would be to roam around and see nearby places from the resort like the panchet dam, panchet hill. How far are these places from the resort? Are there options for hiring autos, private cars? Anybody knows when the panchet dam resorvoir open its gates for releasing water, as i guess that view will be awesome?

You can easily avail train upto Asansol/Kumardubi and take a auto/car up to Garhpanchkot from there.

For visiting Panchet you can hire a car from the resort and it is a half day tour, you can also include Maithon.

There is no confirm timing of gate opening it depends upon the water level.But it is true the view of releasing water from the dam is really awesome.

I stayed at the WBFDC guesthouse and I hired cab from them, you don't have much options as the guesthouse is located far from the urban locality (that's what you'll enjoy though). The guesthouse is at the footsteps of the Panchet Hill, if you want to trek then you can start from the guesthouse itself. Panchet dam is just 5km away from the guesthouse.

You can access it from Barakar . Auto fare will be 150/= . As per fares of local routes it is 120/= .

Our onward journey costs 200/= and return journey costs 120/= . In the resort you will get a phone no. car hiring agent , but his charges are higher . Its difficult to find other sources . I have been there on 16th , 17th of June . You can also trek in Panchet Hills , Guide costs 150/= (Negotiable) . Its just a 1 Hr trek. You yourself can walk around . Among the woods you may can find jackals . Plenty of birds , though common , are there inside the bunglow area and surroundings .

@nn0023- Did you visit there this month itself? i want some information regarding the resort cottages. I want to book an A/C double bed room. I was going through the wdfc portal for checking room availability and there i saw A/C double bed room of varying tarrifs(from 900-1400) for garpanchkot resort. Can you put some light on why these variations and also location wise which are the best rooms to book? what all places did you visit there?

The rates differ due to the size of the rooms , sofas , dressing room etc.
We have visited the Garh , Baranti Dam , Birinchi Mandir and the Panchet Dam on the way .

thanks nandan for the reply. about the resort cottages which are the best 1's? i saw the pictures of the damodar-barakar(AC) & the sal-pial(non AC) cottages in the wbfdc portal and they looked good.

I stayed at Sal-Piyal, it was good and well maintained.

i have got my booking done for last week of august in the wbfdc resort at garpanchkot. i will be going there from kolkata by train. which station would be the nearest to get down-barakar or kumardubi?i saw barkar falls in westbengal and kumardubi in jharkhand. so will barakar be a better option? also what are the transport available in the stations to go to the wbfdc resort?

Need some help regarding finalizing my return journey from Garpanchkot to Kolkata. the checkout time in wbfdc resort is 11 am and Black Diamond is at 5 pm. I have got the below 2 options.

1) Can i checkout from the resort and visit the Garhs,Jaichandi Hills,Birinchi Mandir and take the Black Diamond in the evening or for these places 5-6 hours are too mauch and can be covered easily withing 2-3 hours. Just dont want to be stranded in the station for 3-4 hours.
2)There is another option for coming to Asansol and taking the 2PM volvo bus to kolkata. Can anybody help me choosing between these 2 options?

What I did was a short trip to Maithon, it is not bad to refresh Maithon memories once again that too in monsoon. Then you can take Volvo around 16:30 from Asansol Chelidanga.

hmm. but i just visited Maithon last november. so was thinking of any other alternatives...
