Hotel in Darjeeling

Can anyone suggest some good hotels in Darjeeling. The basic requirement is a view of Kanchanjungha from the room.

I really liked staying at the Shangri La Regency. It is moderately priced and situated at the bottom of The Mall near the Clock Tower. If you can get one of the rooms on the top floor you will have a fantastic view of KATCHENZDONGA. Our first morning in Darjeeling, waking up, we went to the breakfast room and - lo and behold - the splendour of the mountains.

The stairs are steep, so if you have anyone in your group with knee problems, avoid it. But on the plus side - you can get acclimatized to the Himalayas just running up and down. Anyway, you will have a steep climb up the road outside to reach the Chowrasta. It is only about 20 minutes walk away. We walked everywhere around Darjeeling. From the Shangri La to the zoo is a lovely walk.

Another good thing about this hotel - the driver who came to Bagdogra to meet us. He was excellent. I have his name and phone number somewhere; I can find it for you, cutiepie, if you like. He also helped us to find contacts in Gangtok later (but that was less successful).

The hotel has electric heaters, which are quite important. Water is in short supply (as it is all over the town). But the showers are working well. They advise you to use a minimum of water.

Hot bags are provided as well as bed tea. All these little comforts make you feel warm and welcome. I would definitely stay there again.

actually it depends which place and what type of hotel you are staying in Darjeeling.........according to local law, water for commercial purpose must to buy.........on demand, municipal water tank available to doorstep 5:00 am to 10:00 pm ........but most of all we, the travelers, must care to use minimum

This is what I mean. We have to use water wisely. We are one planet.

As for the heaters - they had them when we stayed there, Mr. Kanti. Perhaps you have not stayed there yourself?

@ cutiepie

it'd better for us if you mentioned the budget......... but you mentioned your requirement

the following is just a copy of my post from here

Well! there are plenty of hotels in Darjeeling.......with your budget Rs 1200/day you'll find rooms on the mall area/core area, but dont forget to burgain.

Hotel Chanakya: 0354-22-57495, just behind "Keventer's"

The Planters Club: Office: 91 354 2254348, Receptn : 91 354-2254349

Hotel Sanderling : 354-2255987

R.J. Resorts: 354-2259411

Highlander's Inn: 9832552662 (Miss Sapna, Manager)

I only mention the names of hotels with my experience........the last one is best for watching sunrise/sunset........you'll find lots of other hotels in mall area with your budget.......but dont forget to bargain, coz after 10th January; its called off-season there.........best of luck

you guessed right.......I never stayed there.........actually I dont prefer to stay on MG Road hotels.........if you cant manage to have room above 3rd floor, lots of different type of cables disturb your view........and its very irritating
