I was there last week.
Best Driving directions as follows :-

NH2-Durgapur Epressway till Asansol
Chowringhee more. this place is after
Asansol toll plaza , roughly about 9 kms
from toll plaza , (dont take asansol exit
as you will be running into heavy traffic
area in congested old GT Road )

At Chowringhee more take left turn (This
more just comes after where the NH2 crosses over
the Kolkata-delhi railway line), Drive another
4 kms and will hit a T-Junction, Turn left here
, now you are in Niyamatpur, after proceeding
about half a kilometer , there is a traffic police
point , turn right here which goes towards Dishergarh
Bridge , drive straight on this road , you will cross
Dishergarh bridge over Damodar, go straight,
ask for Sharbari more , from this more Turn
Right till Puapara , from Puapara turn left
towards Garpanchkot WBFDC cottages, the straight
road go towards Panchet Dam.

Apart from few bad stretches between Sharbari More
and resort , rest of the roads are in good condition.

Let me know if you reqire some specific informations.

Cheers

Can anyone give me some info about the road condition via Barakar, Chirkunda? I understand its longer route by 10-15 kms compared to Niyamatpur, Dishergarh route. But good road and hassle free driving is my importance rather than the distance.

Niyamatpur is the best alternative among all three
routes, Barakar route is much more congested . lengthier
and in poor condition than the route I had described.

Cheers

Hi Chief,
I would be going to Garpanchkot for the first time in the first week of Feb. I like to return from there via Mython. Can you please give me a detailed road direction from Garpanchkot to Mython - as you have provided for reaching Garpanchkot.

Another thing, is the quality of all the rooms in the WBFDC resort are just the same? Which cottage is the best in terms of amenities and from having good views?

Any word of caution you suggest for the trip?

Best Regards.

From WBFDF go to Puapara crossing and turn left, you will cross the Panchet Dam and then go straight along that road until you reach Barakar. You will hit a T junction, turn right and cross the Barakar bridge over damodar. After crossing the bridge there is a crossing and you turn left. Go straight untill you reach NH-2 crossing. Go straight, crossing NH-2 and you will reach mython.

When are you planning to go? I will be there from 6-Feb to 8-Feb.

There is no new road that has emerged in that area in the last decade or so. The route described above is the best. The route via Chirkunda had depressions where elephants can hide. Don't take it if you care for your car.

Sorry was away on a longish holiday. And no there is no other hotel in Garpanchakot. The WBFDC gets booked almost on the very day reservations open for booking three months in advance. That's really sad, I know. But that's also the charm and beauty of the place.
