We have recently made a trip to Garpanchkot. It's 4 hrs journey from Howrah station. The place to stay there is WBFDC Resort. It's a huge compound and well maintained. But to enjoy the place, you should go there in a group or a place for honeymoon couple for a small trip....

Everything is good. Only the negative side of this resort is food. Food option is very much limited and the staffs are not well equiped to support all boarders. They were not agreed to provide lunch on next day to us as the check out time was 11AM. Our return train was at 5 o'clock and there is no other option. After some arguments, they have provided us the lunch.

For car, one must contact Mr. Amit there. His service was simply superb.

Thanks...

I agree with avraadhya, but some planning would help for this wonderful trip to be memorable only for good reason. We were three friends and only last weekend ( 6th March) visited there.I knew the timing of check out@ resort and the time of Black Diamond @ Barakar (17.04 hrs).So we started for Maithon via chirkunda More.Had lunch in Maithon and visited Kalyaneswari temple and came back to kumardhubi to board the train. Now the real problem occurred.Black diamond was 1.30 hr late from Dhanbad, and we were worrying to reach home after get down at howrah @11.30.Did a planning again with all options staying @ Asansol /Durgapur/ or get down at bandel to catch Naihati local ( we are from Barasat - Sealdah-Bangaon section). Finally took the risk by reaching HWH at 11.14 and luckily found a taxi ( which did not charge us exorbitantly , to my utter surprise!)..All in all an eventful , thrilling memorable weekend trip.

Hi,

I am planning to go to Garpanchkot on a weekend in November. I have been hearing its a Maoist surrounded place & might not be safe to visit. Is this true. Seeing that you guys visited in March, how were the situation then? Can you please throw some light?

It is a blatant lie. But I don't think you will get any reservation there before February. Check the website.

It's safe till date from Maosts.Even some of my friends visited during monsoon ( when Panchet was in news in terms of cusec of water release), there was no problem whatsoever.November will be quite good.

About Garpanchkot ,Baranti trip

@ Duronto Di

Last time we visited Buxa Jayanti in Dec'12 and you helped us a lot by giving informations and guidance, tomorrow i.e. 17/03/2013 we will start our journey for Garpanchkot and we have booked palashbithi eco resort for one night, on 17th we will visit all the tourist places nearby in Garpanchkot.(We don't know what to see in Garpanchkot Except Panchet Dam,Fort, Temple and beautiful Nature)

On 18th can we visit baranti ? how much time take from Garpanchkot to Baranti to Asansol Railway Station ? Our reservation from Asansol Railway Station in Black Diamond Express.

Ruins of ancient Garh, Panch-ratno Mandir, Patal Shib Mandir - these are local spots.Guide Swapan Mukherjee (09933965600) may be contacted. Charges Rs150/- - Rs.200/-.

Maithon (35 km), Baranti (23 km), Jaichandi Pahar (hill) and Raghunathpur can also be visited. Visit the nearby villages- the simple living villagers, their life style, village huts will gift you something heartening.

You can easily do that. Garhpanchakot is 20km from Baranti and Asansole is 27km. If you can book a car from GP, you can visit Baranti and reach Asansole. Muradi Station, 6km from Baranti requires 30 minutes by train to reach Asansole. There are some Express and MEMU trains for Asansole.

Your only problem will be the heat, March is a bit hot there. Try to take food between GP and Baranti OR keep packed food, water with you. You'll get no good quality restaurants before Asansole.

You can see this :
Baranti - sweet little hamlet in nature's lap

Hope you'll also join the thread after return.
