Gangasagar Mela
Gangasagar Mela
I'm interested in going to the Gangasagar mela in January with my wife on Sagar island. What worries be is the question of accomodations. I imagine they will be more expensive (that's ok)because of the festival but will there be something available?? On some photos I saw many small tents. Are these available to rent?? Or are we looking at visiting the island during the day and staying on the mainland at night??
Anyone can shed some light on the accomodations for me. Any other advice for visiting the island during the festival would be greatly appreciated. (Like how long does it last and exact dates for this year...or any other info)
Thanks a bunch
Martin

Hello Marty,
I'll be going to Ganga Sagar Mela in January. WB Tourism have informed me that Larica Hotel is closed and any recent attempts to contact them by mail went unanswered.
I'll be going down there with the help of these guys, who told me that it would be easy to stay "in straw huts with the pilgrims". They have accompanied people to the mela in the past. Please feel free to contact me by PM.
