Gangasagar Mela 2012 (14th -15th Jan)

Hi All,

Anybody planning to visit GangaSagar Mela this year? There is a package tour provided by Westbengal Government and starting price is Rs-/ 4200.

Please suggest me the options if i want to travel solo there. I need detailed info for stay and transport and expecting within 2000-3000.

Please let me know if anybody is planning the same and where i can possibly join him / her.

Yes available, but if we both can go separately without any package will be cheaper for us but i will be then little worried about some safety related issues but not sure.

Yes, that makes sense to hire a vehicle and go together.But what about accomdations? I need to close this soon in orddr to get my tickets to kolkata booked.

Hi,
From my prior experiences about Sagar Mela i would like to suggest you something.
You must be aware about the traffic jam during the Mela time. It takes long hours to clear jam and to reach Hardwood Point or Lot-8.
Another thing you must take into consideration is the Ferry service. During low tides the ferry service ofter ceased due to the silt deposition in the river. After crossing the river you'll have to travel about 30 kms to reach the Mela spot.
It is impossible to return back to Diamond Harbour and again visit the Mela next day.

Lastly, I would suggest you to visit the Mela one day before and book the Bharat Sevasram Sangha's camps. They can be booked at the Kolkata Office of the Sangha.
