Dooars around Dec'12 -Jan'13
Hi Everyone,
I am planning to make a family trip to Dooars (North Bengal, India) around Dec-Jan 2013. Family includes 4 adults and 2 kids.
I am looking for a 3N/4D kind of relaxed stay, which should have a cozy stay in a jungle resort, decent food, high level of cleanliness and great service.
In terms of itinerary, we are not looking at a hectic race to see all places, but 4-5 major attractions would be fine. We want to make the jungle resort our base for 4 days and see places nearby, with the cutoff return time by 6-7PM.
Proximity to jungle, nature is absolute necessity, as seeing wild life is not much into our radar, as relaxing is.
It would be great, if you can suggest best hotel/lodges, along with travel options from either Delhi or Kolkata.

abhi, you can try for Rose Valley Resort in Falakata. Find their site.
You can add Mendabari and Kunjnagar as sight seeing.

Sorry, Rose Valley Resort looks grand but is outside Garumara NP. If you want to stay right inside the forest, try Forest Department's Eco Resort at Kalipur inside Garumara NP. The electric fencing starts barely 10/15 yards away from your cottage. The Resort looks like below :

The Resort has its own watch tower called Medhla, on the bank of River Murti. It also has two elephants to go inside the forest. It is a wonderful place with excellant hospitality and very good Bengali ethnic food.
Another place to savour the forest is Holong Forest Bunglow inside Jaldapara NP. If luck holds good, from your room, you will see wildlife (rhinos, bisons, elephants etc.) coming right inside the Bunglow campus. Plus you can avail the Jeep and elephant suferies.

As suggested by anirban1954, Kalipur is very nice but their booking is temporarily closed up to Dec/Jan,please check.Hollong Tourist lodge can fulfill your expectation but again booking in this lodge is quiet difficult.
Rose Valley can be a great alternative as suggested by DJ, they are having
another resort at Lataguri also, please check.

Errrr..... these are the reasons I suggested that Resort.
Suggestions of anirban and soumik are much better no doubt ....
