Howrah Digha Express/ 2867 A travels from Howrah to Digha. It takes 3 hrs 25 mins to reach Digha. Attractions in and around Digha are Lankeswari temple, Kapal and Kundala temple, Siva temple, Shankarpur, a beach resort(14 km), Junput,(40 km) another beach resort and a centre for marine biology. Hotels in Digha such as Sonar Bangla Hotel, The Palm Resort Hotel, Larica Holiday Inn, Digha Tourist Lodge etc.

I am thinking of driving from Kharagpur to Digha tomorrow, but I am not sure of the route. We have holiday Thursday & Friday + weekend.

Can anyone advice me?

Also, can anyone suggest a nice hotel to stay for 2 nights and where I can get good food/alcohol nearby to the hotel?

Cheers

From my experience(of about 10 years ago)Digha is extremely crowded during the Durga Puja (and christmas and new year)days. Extremely, as in Howrah station during peak time rush

Also accomodation may be a problem as you have not booked it yet.

We had stayed in a hotel called Dolphin in old digha. The hotels are in clusters and Digha is a small place. So you will get good food(many fish fry and other food stalls on the beach and some good bengali "hotels" in the market)in walking distance wherever you stay.

welcome
there is a train that leaves at around 7 in the morning - reaches around 10.30am. that's the best one I guess- gives one almost an entire day.
in digha you have two options- old digha and new digha
old digha- there's no beach here and one has to go to new digha for a swim.
new digha- the hotels there are a tad better- sagarpriya being the best i believe. there is also a sea beach where one can have a bath.
there's another place around 20 min from digha- udaipur.
there is only a single hotel there - but that place is quite new and the beach is great.
the hotel belongs to fisheries department of government of west bengal.
you can visit mandarmoni/ shankarpur/chandaneswari temple from digha.
it wont be hectic and you will have ample time in your hand if you are planning on a 2nights 3 day s trip
happy journey

Hello dr dey,

Please note that the post on which you replied is of 7th nov, 2009.

It is a very old post.

@Natt: You can try Tajpur..still not so crowded..and if you bath in Digha in the puja, then i am sure you will get the experience of Gangasagar bathing...

Dhrubatara

Thanks - where is Tajpur? How do I get there from Kharagpur? Is it better to take the rain or drive? Lately I have been seeing some nice pics on IM in the photo gallery of beach there.

Cheers

hi friend,

You must take your own car...drive towards Digha...just before 16km a place called BALISAHI will come...take a left turn...the road leads to Tajpur(about 3km).
