Darjeeling by Toy Train
I am very much interested to go Darjeeling by Toy Train in this Nov. So, I want to know :
- Where is the starting point of this Train? - How can I go there from Shiliguri? - How much the fare is? - How long it takes to Darjeeling (Ghum station?) - From Ghum, how can I go to the City? - Time Table of the Train. Thanks all in advance for helping. |

Mamud - look on the Indian Railways website - they will give you all the details such as timetable, length of time, fare etc. and you can book on-line there, too.
Do you really want to go to Ghum station, or all the way into Darjeeling? It's an unforgetable journey, and I would recommend it to anyone (oh, it takes about 7 to 8 hours, by the way).

The Cindarella hotel (or something similar) in Siliguri has a website with loads of info about the DHR, the hotel owner runs the DHR fan club.
I bet I have the hotel name completely wrong.

The train departs in New Jalpaiguri (NJP).
The last stop is not in Ghoom, is in Darjeeling. You can get the fares in indianrail.gov.in Trains between important stations NJP - Darjeeling. Fares are FC 247 Rs - 2S 42 Rs The train goes only once a day in the morning from NJP to Darjeeling 09.00 - 15.00 You can also take the train in Ghoom up to Darjeeling, is the nicest part. Jorge |

Mahmud,
If you are coming to Bagdogra by flight, then you can board the train at Siliguri Junction or if you are coming by train from Sealdah (Kolkata), then you can board at NJP. You can avaid superfast Darjeeling Mail or Kanchankanya/Uttarbanga Express, get down at NJP station, just cross over the foot overbridge, and come down to the toy train platform. Toy train 1D from NJP to Darjeeling depart from NJP at 9:00 (IST) and then stops at SIliguri Junction at 9:25 a.m. Darjeeling Mail reaches NJP at 8:15 a.m. (scheduled time). One time, Darjeeling Mail was delayed by an hour due to fog in the winter month of December-end and I missed the toy train (only half of the fare was returned to me). Go first class in the toy train and book well in advance. I prefer to stay back at Siliguri for one night and then board the toy train next morning (I did this next time I went to Darjeeling), this will eliminate the risk of missing the train. By the time you are planning, I believe our long-awaited Moitri Express between Dhaka and Kolkata will start running. ![]() |

Reg Kolkata-Dhaka train, yes we re also waiting for the day as bus journey seems boaring. I invite all the IM'rs to visit bangladesh by this train. If need any kind of advance information, reservation, help I will do from my part. FYI, Bangladesh is very cheap country to visit. So, you can think. Otehr hand, those who want to visit Darjeeling, can come though Bangladesh. You can save time, money as well as see the Bangladesh. You cn do - Take Bangladesh double entry visa from Kolkata (Easy & free) - Take Kolkata-Dhaka bus (Only Rs. 400) - Stay some nights in Dhaka (Hotel Tariff only Rs. 100-150) - Take Dhaka-Shiliguri bus (12 hours journey, Fare R.S 400) & return to Kolkata same way. |
