Thumbs up To all the veterans of IM

I have sought help from a lot of veteran travelers(kshil, sagarneel, amit hazra, mithun) who have got amazing contribution towards IM and even PM them but till now couldn't get much response except for a few who took initiative and shared their valuable information.
What' wrong IMers? Please feel free to share if this thread is causing any threat!!

What I found from the rate chart provided by Apurba is it can be the card dated July,2009.
The best thing to do is take the idea of the fare and negotiate it with the driver/taxi owner/agent.Also keep in mind if it is peak season/off season.

You are most welcome.
Last time I went to Jorpokhri and found the road leading to Sandakphu.I inquired a few local Landrovers stationed at Sukhiapokhri Bazar and those rates differed a lot from this.Hope this helps all going to Sandakphu.

I can also share the rates , i know .
Only 2 places :

Siliguri to Zorethang - 110/= per head .

Zorethang to uttarey - 120/= per head .

Siliguri to Zorthang is always available , but the uttarey one leaves latest by 11:30 to 12:00hrs..

If the no. heads is on the higher side you can book it by 1200/= . Ratan is one of drivers . He is really a good person .

I normally call Arjun Subba of NagBeli Resort asked him to convey Ratan to wait for us .

Thanks

I went to Sandakphu in May 2010. Though I trekked the route, I had enquired about rates of Land rovers at manebhanjan and those are similar to above. However 1 family was dropped at tumling from Mane and was charged Rs. 1000/= for dropping.

See here lies the beauty of sharing information. You said that one family was dropped to Tumling from Mane for 1000/- only although the chart says it to be 1500!!So you can negotiate lower than the chart rates also and in full season(May,2010)!!
So next time any one goes there should have the courage to bargain a lower rate.......in peak season!!!!

Few feedbacks and info to share on this thread, just back from the North Bengal tour today.

It IS better to get down at Dalgaon, as the road (NH31 / Lateral highway) is in ruins between Hasimara and Madarihat (Jaldapara). It takes 500 INR for the trip from Dalgaon to Madarihat (Jaldapara)

Madarihat (Jaldapara Tourist Lodge) to Hollong Tourist Lodge - 300 INR

Madarihat (Jaldapara Tourist Lodge) to Chilapata half day trip - 1000 INR, entry and camera fees in addition to this.

Madarihat (Jaldapara Tourist Lodge) to Darjeeling - 3500 INR

Darjeeling - Bagdogra - 1800 INR

Few phone numbers:

At Jaldapara - Contact:

Biswajit Das (owns fleet of cars and SUVs) - 9733141091
Raju Chakraborty (owns a Maruti van, and can organize SUVs) - 9733148212
Sahidul (Drives SUV, probably would be a bit less costly than others, he can also organize trip to Bhutan and Sikkim) - 9733159127
Amal Karjai - 9635659711 ( Costs 800 INR per day + food and stay for Amal + Diesel)

At Darjeeling:
To Siliguri / Gangtok / site seeing - Nagen - 9434176897 (http://transhimalayantours.com/ )
Local site seeing:
Anil : 9733059578
Tashi : 9749613529

One last thing, let me share excellent feedback on each one of them above, both Raju and Amal are great people!

Is he the same Amal of whom I had given reference to you? If so, I'm happy you liked his services. Now that you have concluded your North Bengal-Dooars trip, please post your TR with lots of photographs.

Thumbs up West Sikkim Trip in May,2012

Dear All,
Just returned from a great trip of West Sikkim which included Varsey,Kaluk,Uttarey,Hee,Barmi ok,Peling,Gangtok.
We hired a Bolero Plus which had a third row for the entire trip for 6 days. The owner Saran Kumar Thapa charged Rs.9500/- for 6 days and fuel charges, driver's fooding and lodging were borne by us.We covered a total of 662 Kms and at 10 Km/litre we shelled out another Rs.2800/- for fuel.Fortunately the driver Santosh arranged for his own food and lodging and refused any money. These hilly people are so honest.....
The Bolero is a Sikkim registered vehicle and descended from Gangtok on 15th May to pick us and returned back after dropping us at NJP on 21st May.Nothing was charged extra!!!!
Anyone looking out for a big vehicle for Sikkim may contact Saran Kumar Thapa at 8016542426 or his brother Santosh at 9734041052.Saran Kumar also owns a Xylo.
