Car Rental in North Bengal & North-Eastern states

In a different thread, Sagarneel had recommended the same driver (it seemed to me) with same phone number. But Sagar had also said that Sanjeeb is based at Ravangla. If it is so, it will be difficult to hire him ex-NJP/Siliguri. Perhaps he will be okay for South Sikkim. What do you say, Priyanka?

not at all ashishda...i have always traveled with Sanjeeb from njp...he doesnt have permit to go to north bengal though (atleast back then he didnt)....he is okay to travel to anywhere in sikkim... Cheers,
Priyanka

Thanks Bangla for starting such a thread.
Request to Mod: Can this be a sticky?
We travelled mostly in shared vehicle. So I can share that information.
The shared car to Gangtok and Darjeeling are easily available from NJP. The fare to Gangtok was Rs 120 p.h on Jan 2011. But it was fixed after some bargain. I saw the same car charging Rs 180 p.h to other passengers. On the return journey we were charged Rs 150 p.h from Gangtok to NJP.
For west and south sikkim to avail shared vehicles one has to go via Jorethang. The shared car stand for Jorethang is in Siliguri, near Payel Cinema. The fare was rs 110 p.h on Oct 2011. From the same stand some cars to Sombaria is also available.
I have seen shared cars to Siliguri-Namchi, Siliguri-Rinchenpong,Siliguri - Dentam. But not aware of the stand and frequency. Jorethang is a major taxi hub at South Sikkim. The cars to Soreng, Sombaria,Okhrey,Kaluk,Rinchenp ong,Dentam, uttarey,Gayzing/Pelling,Legship are available from here. The fares I know are : Okhrey Jorethang - Rs 80, Bermiok-Jorethang - Rs 80 as on Oct 2011.
For Kalimpong, one NF Railway service jeep leaves NJP after 7:30, as soon as it gets 15 passangers. Fare was Rs 120 p.h on April 2012. You can pay for 1-2 extra seats for a comfortable journey as they take more passengers than the actual no of seats. If it is not available shared cars to Kalimpong is frequently available throughout the day from Kalimpong stand near Pani Tanki, Silliguri.
From Kalimpong shared cars to Pedong,Algarah,Lava and a number of places in East Sikkim, like Rhenok,Rangli are available.
The fare of Pedong and Algarah is Rs 30 p.h, for Rhenok it is Rs 100. At Algarah there is a stand for cars to Lava.
Regular bus service is there between Kalimpong and Siliguri. The fare was Rs 70 on April 2012. SNT buses to important places in Sikkim like, Gangtok, pelling are available from SNT Bus Stand at Siliguri.
I have also seen a shared car with a board displaying Siliguri-Mangan. But I do not have the other details.

This is great !! I appreciate, Bangla
Though such threads are easy target for unauthorized agents but this would be really a great help for us.
I would like to share the contact no of Babul (owner – driver of a Bolero): +91 9434607466 I am not sure about the latest rate (may be 1100 - 1200 per day) + fuel (1 liter Diesel for each 8 KM on hills). He is my time tested contact in North Bengal.

@ruchira This is just the right kind of information I was looking for.Short and to the point.Information on the fares are really important for us as they form a vital part of the budget.Every little information is important irrespective of whether one traveled by a shared vehicle or an exclusive one.
Thanks for considering and appealing to the moderator to make this a sticky thread!!Once we are thorough with the rates/fares in different seasons at different part of the states we would be able to bargain and travel economically. So the soul purpose is to share information.

Thanks for sharing your information. Can you detail on your statement,"Though such threads are easy target for unauthorized agents." I don't want to help any sort of agents through this thread. You can PM me if sharing such information leads to adding brains to the already 'Corrupted' grey matter....

"Corrupted grey matter...." !!! ha ha ha..... no no, nothing serious.... this is common problem just everywhere, no one can put a filter here. we could expect some recommendation from some fake member
But as I told, this thread would be a great help - only point is we need to judge carefully.
Cheers

Well you have highlighted a vital point.IM Members please judge when you call any of the drivers or car owners or agents given in this thread. And stay away from paying anything in advance even if it is a way of confirming your travel.
Bangla - A great job and initiative for starting a thread like this. It will be helpful for many of us. For quite some time I was searching for Contact nos of Drivers of north bengal. Asis da had helped me by providing the no. of Amol Karji earlier. In future all of us should try to contribute to this thread by providing nos, name and fares of hired cars in North Bengal and north eastern states.
Just came to know that the road from Jaldapara to Hasimara, where Kanchankanya has a stoppage is extremely bad, and it is better to get down at Dalgaon if you are planning to go to Jaldapara. The car rental from Jaldapara to Chilapata and back is 1000 INR, and the trip to Khairbari Leopard/Tiger Rescue center from Jaldapara costs 600 INR.
Can someone please suggest if the Khairbari and Chilapata can be combined together from Jaldapara?

I have been there last December. The road that leads to Jaldapara from Hasimara is Ok and it would take hardly 25 mins to reach. The rates are Ok and you can club them together but you should start early atleast by 6.30-7am.
