Good plan for 3D-2N
Bakkhali is a good destination for you. To me it's a special spot and we used to go there at least twice a year.
However, presently there are so many budget hotels, you need no advance booking. Go and choose. If you can manage, WB govt.'s tourist lodge is in best position, now PHE has a very new guest house just opp. of tourist's lodge. WB Govt. Labour Deptt. also has a good lodge. Among private hotels, Bay-view, Balaka, Hotel Deepak etc. are OK. For food you have to choose road side huts- which will not impress you at first look, but they are very homely and maintains quality. Towards beach there are better restaurants now. You can buy raw materials (veg., fish, chicken etc.) and get prepared by the restaurants. The localities there still believe in simplicity and you will like them.
In Frejerganj - there are few accommodation- don't go for that of Benfish- there are all spread smell of 'sutki mach' (dried fish).
In Henry Island there is accommodation of WBSFDC only. Not bad but ask about electricity and water.
You can enjoy both frejarganj and H.I. from Bakkhali by your car, if not by local bus or Cycle-van.
If you have car, I suggest pack your food, water and start very early in the morning to H.I. and spent upto afternoon there on the vast lonely beach - where you can be the owner.
Frejarganj is a nothing different unless you hire a boat and go to 'jammu dwip'- have an exceptional experience.
The bakkhali beach is not so good to have bath but you can move a far right or left to find a good place to bath.
One morning take the leftward way from bakkhali beach amidst the jungle to find the 'Bon-Bibir than'- you will not be deprived. There is a very small crocodile project near bus stand.
Once there were wide-spread 'Jaow-bon' on the beach- i miss it. Now the Beach road, already broken and the ruined concrete banks disgraced the nature a bit.

From Bikash Bhavan 1st floor you can make a booking at the lodge in Henry Island...They also made tent arrangement to stay beside the lodge......
It is a fisheries department bungalow
....
....
I stayed at Mangrove rest house of Govt of West Bengal at henry Island near Bakkhali on 8th September,2012. My experience is worst and terrible and pathetic at that place. In our group we have 9 Women (4 are senior citizen among them) and 1 child. The staffs of the hotel are just "Gunda". In our room (W1, W2, W3) the electricity is not working at night. When we request the security guard (Lalit Maity) to look after the same, He just did nothing. After my repeated request to them, He used slang languages and told that he will not do this. Day after morning, when we want to check out from the hotel, they locked our door, after several request they harassed us with 15-20 other local guys and threaten us that they will see us later. I can remember 2 of the names of those "Gundas". one is Lalit Maity and other is Badal. However, our experience is worst at that hotel. I request to all of you, that never stay at that place.

What a heart-breaking experience arijit

Bakkhali is a place that remains in a some soft corner of my mind. It's our yearly destination. But we visited Henry Island only once and not stayed there.
What happened to you is worst ... it should be remonstrated.... must be put to public through all kind of social network sites, travel Magazines, newspapers.
Please place it a new thread here having caption on the subject.
Try to post it on all other popular social sites.
I'm feeling so dispirited knowing such bad things about my favorite destination.
I'll try to know of those 'gunda's from the persons I know there.
So sad arijit, wish this'll happen to you never ever... to nobody else.

I donot know why these type of incident happened, you should bring it to public, so that future travellers become careful.I stayed there two times, the place like Henry Island must not be corrupted like this way
I strongly recommend Arijit should immediately (if not done already) lodge a formal written complaint to Benfish (it is Benfish Lodge, isn't it?). Make sure that your complaints should, inter alia, incorporate:
(a) Description of each incidents,
(b) Date & time of incident,
(c) Place(s) of incident,
(d) Person(s) involved in the incident with their names and/or description, &
(e) Booking reference, if any.
Also highlight the plight of the senior citizens, ladies and kids in your group due to such unruly and ugly behavior. Mention specifically that your letter should be treated as a
1. formal complaint; and
2. be processed through investigative and grievance redressal procedures of Benfish
One more thing. This complaint letter will have to be signed by the person in whose name the booking was made.
Mark a copy of your complaint to (1) Tourism Minister, Govt. of WB and (2) Director of Tourism, West Bengal.
We all know how Govt Departments function. Unless you lodge a formal complaint, nothing will move there. However, there is no guarantee that things will move to right direction once this complaint is lodged. But there is a possibility.
Incidentally, I once come across a report where Govt. of Maharashtra took very strong action on its own based on such report in a public forum. If I remember correctly, the incident occurred in a Govt. Lodge at Raigarh Fort. But it is too much to expect that our State would rise to the occassion and take cognizance suo moto. Hence formal complaint is a must.
Like many others in the forum, I also feel very strongly about the incident. I am very sad that you had to undergo such a humiliation in a remote corner of our State without any help forthcoming. Those who are supposed to protect, they themselves turned into tormentors. What an irony!!

I like Bakkhali as well, though really shocked with Arijit's experience. We were planning for a Henry Island trip next year, but I think I'll book in Bakkhali and arrange a short trip for Henry Island instead.
@DJ: Just to add to your description about Bakkhali, I feel the best restaurant is Ma Kali Restaurant (too good food), and we generally stay at RBI holiday homes. One more hotel I felt was good is "JoyGuru Abasan".. The last but not the least.. i visit Bakkhali almost every year to bring my favourite freshly prepared PATALI GUR (jaggery).. simply awesome..

We too, dada, spend so many lovely full moon nights there
.............Bathed in monsoon days, with massive down-pour ...... water and water all along, from up above the sky and down in the sea .....
Spend the evening.... the whole night in balcony with the the continuous raining ....
I'm in love with Bakkhali since '91 ........
