Check with google maps. On the google page center top left menue... Then punch in the two place names where it says : Get directions.
You can go via Kurhmun, Kusumgram to Nabadwip. Then cross the Ganges to reach Krishnanagar & take NH 34 to reach Murshidabad. Approx. distance is 150-160 km.
Cheers.....
@Atala: thanks mate... but i'm psychologically little less inclined to those modern utilities at hand (although i know it very well that i'm sounding like an octagenerian granpa) and feel more enriched to gather the info from somebody with first hand knowledge. I dont mind doing a lot of research about the place i'm targetting from internet though, but somehow when it comes to driving direction i opt for the former option.
@koushik: really appreciate your help (and indeed glad to meet an Indiamiker from the same place!) I have heard the name of all those places you have written but unfortunately dont know the way to go to any of them. So please explain in bit more details starting from the exit point of bardhaman. And another thing,as u told i have to cross a river at nabadwip,is there any bridge or just ferry service?in later case do they carry motorcycles on them too?otherwise my headache ought to persist.

Sorry, I do not know that route, I just know that there is a bridge to Krishnanagar at Nabadwip.
Although contrary to your inclinations I am psychologically inclined to use the google map to check any possibilities, it is not going to be useful for you. Last time I saw those roads they were full of potholes, and I am not sure how much more technically advanced road-construction in that area has become meanwhile.

@atala: ok...so you mean the entire road from nabadwip to murshidabad is full of potholes or some particular stretch? In any case i wasnt expecting a 4 lane expressway in that route (aftral while in india a biker cant dream that if he has intention to explore, lol). I know what a sore in my ass riding 150km of honeycombed road will be... May be that butt sore itself is the potent stimulator to make you attain travelling ecstacy.lol.oh i didn realise offlate i'm getting little more talkative :-O
My expierence is from a long time ago, and concerned only a part of your itinerary. Maybe the roads are okay now. But generally right after monsoon the road conditions are worse, aren't they? You would know that best from daily experience as a resident.
Ya you're right... And when the road meanders through some village then it's nomore mud water filled potholes but simply sinking mud. I'll do the last detailing about route and road condition after returning bardhaman after a wk or so. Lets see what fares ultimately and how...
Where exactly in Murshidabad do you want to go? I would take the Bardhaman - Katwa - cross the river on a boat - Debagram (on NH 34).
Going via Nabadwip is a bit of a detour.
You could also turn left before Katwa and then go via Ketugram. The Katwa and boat route is the shortest one to reach the national highway 34.
If you were going to Moregram and beyond then take the right turn from Panagarh's Darjeeling Morh and keep going straight beyond Ilambazar > Suri> Rampurhat>Nalhati.
The road as good as does not exist inside Panagarh town. But you might not be able to see the road due to the huge jam of trucks. As of last Monday the road from Panagarh to Ilambazar was pretty bad in patches.
Here is an image of us crossing the river with my car. This crossing is from the Debagram side to Katwa.

By the way, right now there is a big flood raging in that region. All rivers are in spate. Several roads are closed in several patches. Take care.

Katwa-debagram-nh34 sounds really feasible (dont you think flood thing will subsibe by coming ten days or so?). What will be the approx distance from bardhaman by this route, any idea? I want to go go murshidabad town only(lol don know if i'm sounding a fool,or is it called berhampur?) & stay at manjusha hotel(you can suggest any other name,i'm open for any alteration), do local sight seeing on my 2 wheels, then take a boat ride to azimgunj.may be i should invest 2 days.where else to go? Do i need more days?

Bardhaman to Katwa is exactly 53 km. It takes me around an hour and a half to cover this distance by car. Katwa to Debagram which is right on NH 34 is around 30 km. From Debagram you turn left and reach Baharampur. Murshidabad is the district. Baharampur is the town. I haven't really stayed there, so wouldn't know about the hotels.
In Katwa ask for kheya ghat and they will show you. It's right in the heart of the town but ask after you cross the railway line/level crossing and enter the town.
Regarding finding the precise route from Bardhaman town, start from the railway station. Cross the flyover (it's fairly obvious) - the only one in the town. As you come down from the flyover there is a bifurcation. Take the left one. This road goes straight to Katwa.
There will be small towns on the way like Bhatar, Balgona, Nigon, Bankapasi, Kaichor, Srikhanda etc (there might be slight error in the order of the names but the first few and the last few are correct).
Inside Katwa town it's quite a maze. Ask around a bit.
After crossing the river at Katwa keep riding straight. There is absolutely no bend till Debagram. From Debagram turn left. Right turn takes you to Bethuadahari>Krishnanagar>Rana ghat etc.
From Debagram to Baharampur you are on NH 34. This precise distance I can tell you only in the evening when I reach home. I generally keep a log of my journeys. But those files are at home.
You might not face any flood on this particular route, though the fields would be under water in several places. I am not too sure. I think Suti onwards is flooded but that's quite a distance from B'pur.
If you are stopped due to floods, turn around and come home. Simple.
Just one curiosity question. Why are you starting from Bardhaman? Are you from the town? If yes, I am surprised that you don't know the Bardhaman-Katwa road.
Another tip for riding on Indian highways. Ask the long distance bus drivers and truck drivers for directions. They know the routes best. The locals generally don't know anything beyond the next town.

Anunoy, if you do go on your bike will you come back to this thread and tell us how the journey went? It would be really useful for others.

Anunoy, the Manjusha hotel in Murshidabad is highly recommended by many members of IM, myself included, because of its wonderful location beside the river and the palace, and also for the friendly and helpful owner Mr Sarkar.Mousourik gives the contact details in this thread:
