To all IMers my heartiest warm regards for creating such a magnificant platform for all travellers alike.. Here i saw some super informed travel addict and enthusiast like Ashish da, Neel, Soumik, Smourik, Snonymous, Bengali just to name a few and then there are millions of travel info seekers like me who r immensely benefited from the info and encouragement both likewise.

I'm following Indiamike since last 2 years and finally gave in to the temptation of expressing my genuine heartfelt appreciation hence became a humble member of this magnanimous forum.

Now to all north bengal lovers specially Ashish da since you drew my attention towards Bagora, I'm going to Darjeeling on the first week of jan 2013 and the tour itinerary is somewhat like this 3 nights at Darj, 2 nights at Sukhiapokhri and 3 nights at Bagora. I must mention that Soumik helped me a lot with his info to make this tour plan. Would i be allowed to post my Travel report here along with photos? I'm pretty new so dont know the full set of rules yet.
Regards
Jajabor

Dear Raaj,

If you have 8 nights time then you can keep 4 places @ 2days each, because Bagora is not a place for 3 nights. You can consider Tinchule or Chatakpur, both are also good places.

We all wait for your trip report and pictures. So do not hesitate to post your Travel story.

Thumbs up Thanks a ton Soumik

Thanks for the tempting suggestion Soumik..

Even i'm also thinking on the same line of trying to catch a glimpse of 4 places. However i'm hesitating a bit just because we'll be travelling with our 3 year old son and it probably will be a little hectic for him.

Though he's pretty used to travelling by now but this would be his first trip to mountains which is why i was considering to keep it at a slow pace..

But you with your lucrative suggestion surely got my nomadic mind ticking..

If my info is right then Tinchuley would be somewhat close to chota mangwa, so which place would be advisable amongst these two? In terms of Mount K views and affordability.

Since we'd be staying in Bagora we might as well make a day trip to Chatakpur. What say?

Hi raaj,

Yes you are right Tinchule and Chota Mangwa are not very far, but it is quiet tough to describe the beauty of both the places in terms of Mount K.But somehow I think view wise Tinchule is a little better(May be wrong). You can do the day trip to Chatakpur also.

@raaj

You may also consder going to Dhotrey, a sleepy hamlet, which is 1 hour from Sukhia. There is beautiful accommodation on top of the hill (Sherpa Lodge). On the east of Dhotrey it is the Darjeeling. The lights of Darjeeling from distance at night is beautiful. On the west the full range of Kanchenjangha. The Sandakphu hill is also visible from Dhotrey. The most beautiful part of Dhotrey is that you may also trek 3-4 hours to Tonglu (5 KM) and spend there a night at the Trekker's Hut and came down trek to Manebhanjan and from there return to Sukhia. It must be a very beautiful experience.

Awesome Suggestion

Thanks for the awesome suggestion Himadri.
Only a few question if i take up the suggested detour, which are as follows
  • Any contact info for the accommodation at Dhotrey?
  • Approx Expense at Dhotrey?
  • Will it be advisable for a 3 year old child?
  • How long will it take for us to reach Tinchuley from Dhotrey and how?

Soumik you and Himadri are turning my tour plan into an incredible itinerary
Thanking you all in anticipation

Raaj,

That's why the wise man says "Tin mathar buddhi nebe"....[take opinion from three].

Let come to the issue:
1. We booked Sherpa Lodge through DGHC Kolkata. Though then they gave booking as Trekker's Hut Dhotrey. However, Sherpa Lodge can be booked by Dpositing the amount in their account. I will give the contact number of Miss Chinju of Sherpa Lodge soon (attn mousourik!!).

2. Cost of accommodation was Rs.100/- per head per day.

3. During 1st week of January it will biting cold any where in Darjeeling Dist. The facilities of Sherpa Lodge is basic, but comfortable.

4. No idea about distance of Tinchula.

You are not thinking about trek to Tonglu.....am i right ? Let me know your final itinerary.

Himadri.

Mousourik!

Dhotrey is connected with motorable road. You can book a cab from NJP directly for Dhotrey. It is 17 km from Manebhanjan. The road goes upto Rimbik/ Seppy, via Palmajua.
