Bagdogra to Mirik (not via Siliguri)

Hello,
we are going to Sikkim by bicycle next week and will arrive in Bagdogra.
The usual way to go to Mirik is via Siliguri.
However, there seems to be a direkt road to Mirik, Probably starting on the road from Bagdogra to Siliguri in nothward direction.

Can anybody tell me

1) do I have to go West or east from Bagdogra?
2) Where exactly do I have to turn north ?
3) Where will this road join the Siliguri-Mirik road

From Bagdogra Turn west , towards Kakarvitta / Nepal Border,
Go about 7 km (before naxalbari) and turn north towards a place called "Dudhia" , which should about 18 kms from your turning , this is where the road from siliguri meets, go about 20 kms more towards north , you have reached "Mirik" without going to siliguri. ask locals for help, since I used this
route couple of years back.

Thanks chief61,
so it is more or less pointless to not go via Siliguri as the junction north of siliguri is also some 10 km away from Bagdogra. Right?
