One reliable driver whose services can be taken :
Mr. Dilip Dutta, 09434527699. He is born and brought up there, has thorough knowledge of all the places and absolutely dependable.
Gr8 help... thanks.

The roads in this area are not the worst in India, have been there a couple of weeks ago. It doesn't matter if it takes ten minutes more or less. Go to google maps

Had gone to Bishnupur last weekend via Durgapur-Bankura. Came to know from other drivers that Bishnupur-Arambagh route is in very bad state.........moreover there is a 10 KM stretch with potholes of 1-2 feet depth.......traveling in small cars should be avoided.........bus or tata sumo is ok.

~Khak~

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do....... Explore. Dream. Discover.

However the route I took (Kolkata - Durgapur - Bankura-Bishnpur) has excellent road conditions for 99% of the time

Well, mousourik,

I placed a question about this Tourist Lodge in another thread....... well, here is the answer. . I missed this part of the thread.

Thanks a lot, mousourik.

Probably the best option to stay in Bishnupur is:
Hotel Laxmi Park
phone 03244 256353/6
mobile 9474930666

better located than Tourist Lodge and with nice rooms and very good restaurant.

I have stayed in one resort at Bishnupur named Holiday Resort. The resort is located at some distance from the main crowded place, and the view from the ist floor balcony was also nice.Food was marvellous but the room rent was in middle budget.

This is the place where we stayed. We didnot get a place in the tourist lodge so asked them to recommend another place. They recommended this one.

Its good - for Rs 1000 we got a suite(2 interconnected rooms with bathroom). We were travelling with a small baby and our parents so this was ideal for us.

There is a huge balcony infront of the rooms where they served us our lunch/dinner. The setting was very beautiful and the food was delicious. My baby son had a gala time crawling/walking all over the huge balcony.

The location is very calm and quiet with a view of the lake(lalbadh?) from the balcony.

Stay here only if you have a car with you and you are comfortable with staying in a slightly isolated place.

Thanks for sharing your nice experience, Nayan.

'ld I think Govt. Lodge as first choice, then Holiday resort, then Laxmi park?
