Volunteers needed in Himachal Pradesh - During Manimahesh Yatra by Mountain Cleaners

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The Manimahesh Yatra is a Hindu pilgrimage which is held every year in Himachal Pradesh. It is attended by approximately 8 lakh people from across the country. The Yatra is held immediately after Janmashthami, in which Hindus celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna.

We will have waste disposal and drop off points at Bharmour, Hadsar, Dhancho, Gauri Kund and Manimahesh. We will encourage as many people as possible to bring the waste they generate back to Bharmour and hope to be selling re-usable cloth bags at a subsidized rate for this purpose. We will recycle as much as possible and already have a local buyer for the recyclable items.

We are aiming to have ten people at each base. We’re providing a waste collection to all the shops and lungars so the majority of what we’ll do is collect, segregate and bag up ready to go down. We’ll also be cleaning the 14km trail and collecting from the chai shops that are in between the camps too. It’s not all about waste, we need people to provide information and sign up volunteers at each base, sell t-shirts and cloth bags, speak to people about recycling etc. we will also be continuing the education program in the schools.

If you would like to volunteer, please drop us a line specifying the kind of work you would like to do and the amount of time you are willing to spare. Send us an email at jodie@mountaincleaners.org and we will send you the complete document listing all details you need to know about the event.

We need volunteers asap, so please get in touch.

For more details you can look up Mountaincleaners.org...they are on facebook too

@Vandana
Jodie is doing a great job...I am humbled by her devotion to environment & her ongoing effort to spread awareness (not only by words but action) of keeping our surroundings clean.
I see it only fit, that each one of us as individuals participate by their action & in our own small way support her cause by volunteering or sending a small donation..
A Salute to Jodie and the human spirit.

Sure we can...Agreed not all of us can take time off from our city lives to participate in the above event. You can always join in at Dharamshala where they need volunteers round the year in their cleanups to Triund & interaction with local kids.. But Mountain Cleaners is more than that (I am sure you would agree)...
Simply by being responsible in our own actions when we travel by road or train, teaching our kids or spreading a little awareness in our community is a big step.
Adapting to Recyclable cloth/jute bags during our shopping & minimizing use of plastic bags (currently you are charged for at most shopping areas anyway) are small steps which go a long way towards a greener future.
India Mikers who can afford and are willing to donate to the cause, Mountain Cleaners have a HDFC Account - website has the details. You can do a local deposit at the nearest branch. I sent a token amount of Rs.1000 last month, rather than donating to a temple because I saw 'God' in her cause and actions.

The Pilgrimage event (yatra) is focused between the period of Krishna Janmashtami 22nd Aug thru 5th Sep (Radha Ashtami).
If the query is towards volunteering with Mountain Cleaners (they will have their presence in August and September) look them up on facebook or mountaincleaners.org
