Hello !
I will be leaving to see my GF in Turkey in August during her Peace Corps vacation time. -I have decided to get involved with some volunteer work as well and came across Volunteerinindia.com - wanted to know if anyone has any experience with these volunteer programs...(They seem a little commercial to me and I wonder how much volunteering I would actually be doing) I have already booked a flight (July 14 -August 14th) to DEL (airport)and originally planned to go to Dharamsala region. As well as contacted the volunteerinindia staff -but I am not sure how -reputable/necessary- they are... Notes: 1. I am looking to actually gain experience -as I am hoping to transition into non profit work in the states when I return. (professional career as an Agent for actors/ models) 2. While I am not to concerned with safety, I will be traveling alone. 3. Would it be best (or is it possible) to contact places in Dharamsala to volunteer directly? Any ideas, advise or shared experiences would be welcomed! Thanks Mj Last edited by mrsunshine : May 23rd, 2009 at 05:20. |

Hello Sunshine,
Don't have a ready answer for you, but am wondering if you've checked out the Volunteering Forum here? You might have to hunt a bit to find something. While looking around, I found this directory of organizations in India, so that might be helpful. Good luck. |

another site is indianngos.com - dunno how reliable.
The best thing is to go with a recommendation or visit a few places yourself. Many are just businesses.

definitely go with volunteerinindia.com
i volunteered through them in June last year in Rishikesh. You must go with volunteerinindia.com. I preferd everything being orgasnied rather than struggle through india to find something.
I had volunteer in Goa in 2006 as well but the conditions were just inhospitable and organsing everything on your own is a day to day strrugle. They are cheaper than most Volunteer placemnt agencies and the quality of service is great. And July august will be killing hot in the Plains like Delhi, Kerala or Goa..so Dharamsala is a great choice. For sure go with them. Cheers |
