Volunteering Cosmetologist
Volunteering Cosmetologist
A few years ago I came across an organization online where licensed cosmetologists could volunteer their skills and knowledge and train Indian women in the profession to help them become self sufficient. I can not find this organization or anything like it...please help! I am a cosmetologist whose dream is to help women in need!

Thank you
Thank you for that info...I am aware of that organization, but know that I did run across one for India in the past. If anyone knows of an organization or one that does some form of training, I would love to know! Thanks again.
What is a cosmetologist?

Wikipedia is not always the best source of information on a subject. In terms of charitable volunteering, I doubt that anyone in their right mind would think that it is necessary to come to India to teach the women how to make themselves more beautiful!!!
It seems far more likely that in the context of this thread, it will be about teaching women the skills necessary to hide scars and disfigurements.

Whilst I agree about the short-comings of Wikipedia, because it is user-generated, I personally find it a very useful tool as a first point-of-call for many queries.

That is of course an invaluable skill to be learnt, but for the majority of women learning a trade in vanity cosmetics would enable them to support their families. How is everything doing as of now by the way? Were you able to pursue what you initally planned?
Cosmetology= Empowerment

As a whole, the East Indian culture is gorgeous along with the natives inner and outer beauty. To become a cosmetologist is very empowering. Not only does it give you the opportunity to change peoples lives, it helps you feel great inside and sleep at night, comfortably, knowing that you made a difference in someone's life... regardless of how "beautiful" the general public sees that individual. It starts within. The same person that you label as "beautiful" may not like how her eyebrows are arched and feels unattractive because she feels as though her eyes are her only asset. How about the young girl in the red light district that has no business being there? Cosmetology could give her the way out she needs to provide for herself and/or her family. While cosmetology can at times diminish disfigurement, it's not the only use.I could go on for days in my explaination but only hope you see where I am coming from. Cosmetology empowers the professional and the client... regardless of how "beautiful" you see that individual.
I would like to hear more about this venture because I have had an attraction to the country since I was a little girl. I would like to volunteer my time with you. I especially want to reach out to pre-teen and teenage girls in hopes to provide a spark of inspiration. One of my goals is to provide hair and makeup services to Fashion Weeks overseas. India being my first stop. There's nothing better than giving back.
Cordially and respectfully speaking,
Couture Heart
