Volunteering Advice Urgently Needed!

Hi,

I've been travelling and volunteering in Northern India for 3 months and have just come down South. I'm hoping to explore Kerala, Bangalore (possibly), Hampi, Pune and Mumbai. I'm interested in volunteering for 2 or 3 weeks at one of these locations, but am finding it difficult to find short-term placements. I am interested in working in areas of refugees, women's empowerment, human trafficking, mental disease and/or addiction. Can anyone suggest a place that will take me for 3 weeks or so? I don't mind paying, but not especially large amounts of money.

I need to find a volunteer placement by March 1st at the latest, so any information would be much appreciated!

The problem is finding one! :/ There are so many and contacting them is very time-consuming and difficult...
If you have any suggestions of where I might start looking, that would be great.

I wasn't gonna mention it since it wasn't asked for, but be aware technically you need an employment visa to volunteer, of course with an organization recognized as such by the Indian authorities. The employment visa would need to be applied for in your home country, it would be bound to your position with that one specific organization and for its duration, and you'd not be allowed recompensation of more than Rs. 10,000 a month.

In practice of course, I'm sure plenty of people do a brief stint of volunteering and not shouting it from the rooftops. But it's a good idea to be aware of your legal status. You are in violation of your tourist visa conditions, assuming that's what you're on.

Hi Ellie i'm afraid I cannot help you with any volunteering info in the south as I am also seeking information on places to volunteer. I was wondering if you could let me know the places you were volunteering in the north as I will be heading over that way soon and would love the opportunity to volunteer whilst I am there.
