I will be there in June, so I'll pass along any recommendations I have after my trip. My feeling is that a little nervous excitement is ok....and, that will proper planning, the trip will be an experience of a lifetime ! The folks on this site seem to have great advise, as well.

Also, if you will be there at a similar time, please reply!
Thank you so much!

Tak...I will in Kolkata when you are there, and so hopefully we will be able to meet when you come to MC! I also have a feeling of nervousness, but also excitement. Seeing as I've never been to India, I'm not sure exactly what to expect. But I know it will be amazing!

Thanks to all who have posted... Knowing there's so many people out doing this inspires me. I am going to Kolkata in September. I will be a Paramedic in the USA and have been a Firefighter and EMT for 5 years. I am hoping some of my medical training can be useful. My dream has been to work with the sick and poor. I hope I can start communication with some of you to help me prepare before I leave the USA and have some friends when I get there.

If you are already in Kolkata then I would like to hear from you and if you could let me know what it's like.

Thanks Hel,

Coming from the US in September

Wow...
I am so happy I found this site. I am resigning from my position working in Emergency medical services, selling what I own and heading to Kolkata in September to start a journey as a volunteer. I am curious as to what I should bring, best prices on flights from the US, if it's insane to just go on faith with no plans to return, or if it's plausible. I want to be helpful and not add stress to anyone.
