treeplanting in the north???
I am coming to india in december for three weeks only, I know it is very short time but I want to make most of it. I am looking to do some volunteerwork on the environmental area such as tree planting or something else to help on environmental issues. Possibly the tree planting is more realistic given the short time I'll be there. I would like to base myself in the north, preferably in the mountain area but I am open to suggestions. I am not interested in working through big organizations or paying lots of money to middlemen. I am looking for small projects that welcome any help they get.
I am familiar with India, have spent a lot of time there in the past but never done any volunteerwork. I thought now it is about time. I am near the end of my studies to become nature entrepreneur. I am grateful for any advice. |

Tree planting is a good option but major problem is taking care and making sure that they are safe. I would be starting something on this line in early next year but only after proper groundwork as the past experience has not been good. First, a suitable area needs to be selected, then the locals and the administration should be involved for creating awareness. I am working on planting trees in hills of uttarakhand that save water as it would hit the right cord with locals and they would at least be careful to take care of their cattle etc not ruining the saplings. All the best for your project, it is a great thought.

Don't know about Walnut trees in Old Manali but if it's going on and that's the season to it, then great, should be done in Garhwal too, so if you discover any more info, please post it. Other than that it's difficult to know what can be done in cold December, other than preparation.
