maybe, but there's many 'charities' who'll charge you a fortune to walk you to the village.

I do not know...want to know.....do such volunteering ever require any certificates?!? I wonder if some even know about TEFL.

Never enquired about it but have been wanting to know ....hows English teaching taken in places like Leh and all. Came across quite a few ppl....all westerners, engaged as a tutor in the nearby monasteries. Did they have to show some experience in teaching or just a genuine interest in teaching opens up the doors for such enthusiasts? Havn't seen any Indian doing this anytime.

hmm...

i've seen many programs online which require you to pay money to teach, i dont want to go through these agencies i want to go straight to the source and teach without the middle man.

p.s can you teach sports? football?

Of course whatever you want. This Irish man I met in Leh was teaching English and Football as well to the little monks at a Monastery nearby.

And spending a month or so in Ladakh wud give u a wonderful opportunity to be a volunteer and also to wander around in that beautiful place. Ladakh because thats my personal fav ....there probably are such opportunities elsewhere in India.

I also love ladakh, and hope to get back there this summer.
As for volunteering, I just as a NGO that I wanted to volunteer for and they said yes. Lots of good places to volunteer in Dharamsala.
