Student interested in Volunteering

Hey all,

I'm a college student, finishing my junior year here in the US. I'm studying to become a civil engineer, and was hopinf to volunteer somewhere in India where I oculd perhaps donate my skills/expertise. I know Habitat for Humanity has chapters in India.
Does anyone know of any other volunteering opportunities for someone like me?

Thanks a ton!

There are more NGOs in the building sector where you could have a try. Have you done a google research so far?

Hey Federica,

thanks for the input. Yes, I tried a google search but I oculd only come up with Habitat for Humanity. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong? Would you know of any other organizations?

thanks

You can have a look at the following websites:
http://www.seedsindia.org/

http://www.habitattechnologygroup.org/

You can also try to contact the Indian office of Architecture & Development (a French NGO), they are in contact with a lot of NGOs in the building scene all over India and may help you to find the right place. Their telephone no.

If you're interested in urban issues and architecture you might want to check out http://www.sparcindia.org/ Sparc. They've turned a bit high-profile because of the reconstruction project but I know a friend from spain who worked with them for her thesis.
