special needs volunteering

I'm a special needs teacher in the UK, and would like to know of special needs schools or institutions, where I can volunteer without having to pay the high fees that a lot of the places these places seem to charge?

Anywhere in India is fine, though as i'll definately be going to Kerala information reagrding the region would be greatly appreciated.

You might try "Buds" which is not too far from Kovalam, Kerala. I have visited it - the kids certainly could do with help. Stimulation and materials seemed minimal. I was put off by the people who were promoting it - self-aggrandising minor government officials and hanger-ons, but they were not directly connected with the project as far as I could tell.
Buds - Google throws up a few links to it.
As for costs, no idea.

How long can you volunteer for? I would recommend a minimum of one month full-time. And make sure you have an original CRB check with you.

Thanks, i'll try Buds. I only want to volunteer for a couple of weeks at any one place.I'd like to voluteer at least 3 schools As i intend to set up a special needs department at a school in Haryana. So i'm looking to gain an idea of special needs teaching in India.

Hi I am a special needs teacher in NYC, let me know what good info you find out....I will be in Mumbai/Delhi volunteering to work with children who live in the slums and have yet to attend school later this month...
