Shree Barbhaya Orphanage - anyone know of it?

I've been looking for something useful I can support (financially and directly) during my stint in India - and I've homed in on the Shree Barbhaya Orphange for Girls in Vile Parle.

It's near to where I live and as I have an 8 year old daughter it's something she'll be able to relate to.

I've heard that some charitable concerns can be a bit suspect - so we've visited, met the principal (she had no English so I was stretching my Hindi to the limits!), chatted to some of the girls (who did speak some English) and done a check via work - and it seems OK?

Anyone know of this organisation? Anything else I should do?

I know a lady who donates to this insitution every month. I am not sure of the name "Barbhaya". Its on S V Road somewhere next to Golden Tobacco if my memory serves me well. [i went there only once]

I'll ask her tomorrow morning and get back to you...

Yes. Its the same place where she helps out for the last so many years... [more than 15] She says its a genuine institution and she helps them very regularly.

Go ahead with your plans... your help will be very welcome and elevating for them.

This lady can come with you for the English to Gujarati [or to Hindi] translation.... and any other communication. Most of the times the Principal has made very very specific demands from her. She regularly carries vegetables and other sweets on festive days. The inmates don't get really good food every day coz of budgetary reasons.... and they look forward to her visits coz nothing pleases the heart more than good food. [this too is purchased as per the Principal's request.] I once went with her coz she could not carry the huge load of vegetables.... otherwise males are not allowed inside the premises in general.

If you wish for a local "communicator", I'll speak to her. I know she won't refuse, as she will help just about anyone.

Thanks Avid .... I've been travelling with work and the family, but back in 'Mudbai' now. I'll be dropping back to the orphanage to give them a donation to sponsor a child.

Help with communication would be handy in the future.
