Shanthi Street Kids.
How wonderful to log in to find all the good wishes for my birhday !! Guys and Gals, THANKYOU with all my heart!! What a great lot you all are!
Now, don't be cross with me, I actually have tried to post something three times, but each time it hasn't registered for some reason and I just found myself logged out!! So, I'll spare you of the detauils of the very incident filled trip, and just say that I was flown almost 1800 miles out of my way, and a further four hours or so was added to travel time. Oooooh one day I'll tell Ya! What a trip! So, my little one was presented to me the same afternoon as I arrived and was crying happily, and I was too.....Now of course it's like we were never apart and life is good......except for....well, sleep escapes me because of rather excited guestscoming into the lodging house from 8.30 to 3.am, and yes, I would rather be somewhere else rather than the Mohan Lodge in Krishnagiri right now! I'm working on it though! Now, for yesterday I decided we'd get a Birthday cake made up (120 rupees) and a huge bag full of snacky goodies for the kids that seem to have taken a fancy to the pair of us! Despite a rather prolonged downpour, we did have a great time. Singing was compulsory and led by Tony, he simply rolled arund and poked everyone taht wasnt singing happy nirthday to mummy!! Had a problem with airtel, so am switching to aircel. You really don't want to know about THAT one believe me! So, john.sw, the number I pm'd you incase you had time to visit us aint a goer, I'm sorry to say! Met up with a couple of old freidns to our great pleasure too....and tomorrow we're going to Bangalore for Tony's visit to Mobility India! Been intouch with a few people regarding trying to rent a place for us and to houise at least a few of the kids on the street, and as you know, tings take a long time here - so I expect it to be a little more time yet before I'll be about to provide night shelter. BUT, we have a little following, and kids are getting free dose or idli most days - trouble is we don't really have a bus stand as such, just a mud pit! right now, so the kids don't actually gather around there as much as they did in dharmapuri! But fear not, kids will be fed and hopefully soon too, housed ! LOADS of love to you all, and thanks again for the wonderful wishes, you have no idea how much your thought are appreciated ! Love from Mummy and Tony!!!!!!! ![]() |

AvidTrecker... what does that -hi on the last Shanti mean?Shanti, glad you are home again, I'm guessing you had a brush with the weather on the way. Thought you had a place there already? ---obviously not; hope you find somewhere comfortable to establish yourself and your small friends very soon.

Its how you pronounce sanskrit words. If said separately, all the words are the same in pronunciation as the last word. But when combined into a sentence, the words flow into each other, sort of. Some writer has called it euphony or homophony. We call it "sandhi", which means "meeting point" or "treaty" which has a little of both sides. ![]() Either way, you are extremely observant, or maybe learning sanskrit. Nice. |

Hey folks!
So nice to have all the good greetings - again I thank you. It's like writing to the family I don't have - when I drop a line here and there to y'all! Well, we have been successfull in that we have a nice little house to move into on Friday in Krishnagiri 1. If anyone's passing by, you'll be very welsome to visit! Furniture will be a little sparse for a bit, but well, it's going to be SOoo wonderful to finally have a real home at last! Something I've wanted for more years than I care to remind myself of! Just a small word on changing up foreign exchange in India. Apparantly since i was last here last year, there have been a few changes in the banking system. Whereas before one could chgange up money in almost any bank anywhere, now even some of the major banks are doing this! You may have to travel a few miles further to find perhaps an ICICI or SBI taht will actually change up money for you. In Krishnagiri there aint one place to do it at all!! Wasn't too bothered though as I have top go to Banalore every now and then with Tony for his prosthetics work. Krishnagiri is a nice enough little town and the people here are amazingly friendly. Whereas it may have taken half an hour to go shopping when we first got here, it now can take up to 4 hours as we keep getting called across the road and back again to visit with people and take yet MORE coffee - ! Rains seem to have slowed down a little here now and we've had no deluge for a couple of days. Took Tony for a haircut this morning and he had almost the whole street in the barbers falling about with laughter while the poor barber was trying to keep him still enough to cut a strand or three!! The little house is great and is only 2750 a month inclusive. Had to pay only 10,000 deposit and there's just the owner and his wife (retired) upstairs. There's a long dining room, little office at the front, 2 small bedrooms, largish kitchen and little courtyard outside at the back where the loo and washroom's are. Nice quiet street and about 5 minutes walk form the "supermarket". Can't wait to move in and right now today we are shopping for everything we'll need for moving in as the place is bare. The owner is coming with me to get beds, chairs, tables etc....to see I don't get ripped off!! Great blessings! I've taken some pics of some of the kids we've been giving out dose and idli etc...to and will be sending them as soon as I've gopt them on a CD to john.sw who has kindly said he'll put them upon the website! I try to get on the Net about twice to three times a week, but it's a little time sonsuming and of course some of the computers need winding up around here and never midn about broadband.....we rely on the speed of the wings of the Eagles to get the next page up !! Seriously, thanks to all in my IM family, and don't forget, if you're passing by......maybe a cup of chai??? |

Well, my Chennai 'broadband' could do with som eagles to speed it up a bit!
Shanthi, that all sounds really great, and I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your house. You'll be ahead of me on the furniture: I've still got nothing but a tiny bed, a mat, a couple of cushions and a few plastic stools, although with the impending matrimony I'm investing in a cheap double bed to last us until my furniture comes from UK. If you're sending that CD to John in UK you might send me one as well: there's a chance of it reaching Chennai quicker than Yorkshire and I'll see what I can do... |
