salary question NGO

I would ike to have your opinion / advice on NGO salaries in India.

What would be a reasonable monthly salary for a general nurse working for a small-scale community health centre and dealing with community based health education mainly? So not working in or for a big hospital...

And the same for a teacher, teaching children from a slum, in a small community centre.

What are the going salaries? What's reasonable?

It's very difficult to find information on salaries related to India NGO's on the internet. Anyone out there with more knowledge? Or maybe aware of a good (online) information source?

Thanks!

By the way, I found this information. Is it correct, according to you?

Remuneration:
Entry level salaries vary depending on the organization. One can start off with a salary of Rs.3500-6000. A stint with the industrial units is likely to get you a salary of around Rs.4000. Though, top organizations usually pay higher salaries.

Hope they are of some use to you. Please let us know what you find out and perhaps post other relative NGO links here..

I am also interested in doing NGO related work (esp. with neglected and exploited/abused youth) in India. I have some experience in these regards within the United States and hold an A.A. (foundation degree, primo livello, etc.) in Sociology and have nearly completed my B.A. in the same. It's extremely difficult finding NGO work (read experience) here in Italy.

Best of luck to you ouwe!

NGO - Non Government Organization...

They are generally Non-Profit entities working for welfare of society at large..

my friend is working with an NGO in Mumbai and she makes 10,000RS per month. She works in the slums and office. Her salary is actually considered quite high.

It really depends where & what. One of my friends, a sweet something 19 yr. old, she makes Rs. 7500/- volunteering for an NGO. Her boarding costs are something like Rs. 4500/- which just includes half an almirah & a bed. That's about it. Going to a cheap place to eat takes 50 bucks each time. So there's 6k just for food & boarding. So everything is relative. If it a rural place, then 10k really means a lot. Cities like Pune, Mumbai & New Delhi are pretty pretty expensive. So 10k would be just a bit above hand-mouth existence unless she's living in some old chawl or ancestral place. Btw the girl is Indian.
