need help to help.
Heyho,
I'm absolutely new in volunteering buisness. My organisation asked me to do a report and therefor I would require to interview my lovely students. Now I was wondering what I should interview about. Our programm includes teaching of local art and craft, basic education ( like English, reading, writing,...). I'm working with empowerment of women and girls aged 6 to 38 from the dalit community. please, help me out, by giving me ideas on questions I could ask the participants, in which people would be interested in. waiting for your replies thank you so much Sophie |

How to work with NGO's
Hi Sophie!
An NGO is still a business and it's good to think of it like that. There is a reason that they need those interviews and a report. Try to find out what the purpose is and who the report is really for. A good NGO has to work under strict guidelines to continue to get funding. Usually they have put in a proposal that states what they will do. What they said they will do is what the funders wanted. So everyone is happy. So find out how what you are doing meets the mission of your NGO and try to focus on that when you do the interviews and write the report. Good luck, Sierra |

Thanks for answering Sierra, all we are doing here is about empowering women from the dalit community. The interviews will be used to keep the supporters (lonely planet foundation, Brooksville fund, global foundation for humanity, global forum, SI (USA)inco, SI (Arizona), etc.) up to date, every volunteer is requested to mantane a report of what has been done by them so far. the report has to be submitted every week, month, and an over all impression when the volunteer leaves. Meanwhile we have to do the interviews to find out what has been gained so far by the participants taught by volunteers. More over it will help the volunteer who's coming after me, to get to know the girls, their level of education, thaughts, impressions, personality, what has already changed in their lives by participating at the NGO programs and to get an overall view.
Thanks again, and I look forward to read more about what is important and what are the guidelines for such an interview.\ regards Sophie |

To keep the funding, you have to show objective change. Maybe others could help out here. You know that you have changed their lives, but remember, you have to somehow quantify it objectively.
Also while you are still there, write a how-to guide for whoever takes your place. Again, like I said before, it would be good for you to learn as much as you can about what your NGO promised to do for the donors. What are the donors looking for? It's all about that agreement or contract. |
