not one should have to go hungry. yet starvation claims a life every 2.43 seconds (according to www.starvation.net) if we used the land more sensibly, in an ahimsic manner, many of these deaths could be prevented since it takes enormous amounts of resources to produce meat.

in the u.s. tons of food is thrown out everyday, while children go to bed hungry, even in america. (hunger is a growing problem in the u.s.) i know people who are able to get enough food by "dumpster diving', procuring decent organically grown food from the healthfood stores. still many "well-fed" are starving with their diets of fabricated foods that provide empty calories and insatiable cravings.

there are websites where one can help feed the hungry everyday, at no (monetary) cost. of course, supporting our local food banks with time or money is important too.
