Mariamma's Children Home in Mamallapuram

Hello All,

We are off to the Tamil Nadu this July, with our soon to be 5 year old son, and are planning to make a donation to a children's charity while we are there.

We already have a duffel bag full of cotton children's clothing, sandals, hats, etc, and since we are going straight to Mamallapuram after we arrive at Chennai airport, it seemed the best place to donate.

I have seen the website for Mariamma's Children Home (http://www.mariammachildrenshome.com/contact.html)but have read conflicting reports about it in guide books. Footprints South India raves about this place and the good work it is doing, whereas the French version of the South India Lonely Planet basically paints it as a scam. Does anyone know if this place is on the up and up?

The reason that I want to really confirm that this is legitimate is because I am making a collection from my work colleagues and friends to make a cash donation, in addition to the clothing we are going to give, and want to make sure that the money goes to a good place.
