long term (6 months +) volunteering

hello everybody,

I'm about to finish an anthropology degree and have been doing quite a lot of reading on India and I now really want to get out there. I'm looking for a long term placement in a community preferably in north India, but most placements i've seen are for 3months. I have a bit of money saved up and I have lots of experience working with children, so teaching seems like a natural choice but if possible i'd like that to just be on the sidelines and do some physical work as well.

Also Haven't really thought about it but do you think i would be able to get a permenant position with an NGO? or is this just wish full thinking.
