List of Organizations (or best place to find?)

I was looking for some sort of volunteer opportunity in India, and aside from Children Walking Tall (which I have contacted) I was wondering what are some other organizations or tools to find organizations?

I have used Idealist.org, but I'm looking for any other sites that can help also. thanks!

If you can specify the field (children/environment...) in which you want to volunteer or the area in India it is easier to suggest organizations. There are many....!

Interests

Well I'm more interested in microfinance/rural development/working with the people directly. This could include teaching English of course but I'm not entirely familiar with all the opportunities, everything is needed obviously. I'm less inclined to working with disease or infrastructure, but not adverse to either.

For a quick bio: I'm a 25 year old male, NRI, have very limited knowledge of spoken Hindi.

You can try to contact Disaster Mitigation Institute in Ahmedabad, they are doing interesting work and maybe they can help you to find the right organization for you:

Desertrose I am not sure what you are talking about, I was writing a little about me:

in regards to Federica's post which said:

I wrote a little about me and what I was looking for. So thanks Federica. I will re-read what you have said, but I dont believe I was critical of you at all.... I am totally confused by your posting and not sure what to make of it. I'd rather say nothing than to someone look like I'm insulting someone.

I appreciate that you pointed out a site to me as I am trying to collect information.

Also thank you to icetea for your list(s). I appreciate everyones help and input and time.

To "machadinha": are you an admin? i'd rather this thread get closed at some point than become some weird argument/confrontation that is not something I can follow logically. I'm rather discomforted that my posting was mistaken for something else....

Who, me? I didn't get involved with the thread right?

But as a mod note then: We had noticed this thread & it looked like Desertrose just misread your post. So I hope that's it and the thread can carry on on its civil course about what it's about: lists of volunteer organizations in India.

Cool. I was just looking for mod/admin input I suppose. I was trying to clarify my own post when you posted your reply.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming!
