Indian charity affilliated with Australia?

Hi IMers (and especially Aussie IMers)

While travelling in India we avoided making 'donations' and giving to beggars, with the promise that we would donate to a reputable charity working in India on our return to Australia.

Can anyone recommend an Indian based charity to donate to that is based in or affiliated with Australia? If the charity is registered in Oz, then our donations are tax deductable, therefore we can give twice as much, and be twice as effective in our giving.

I guess we could always give to UNICEF or Word Vision, but we would prefer to give to an Indian specific charity, as we feel somehow connected to all the people we saw on our travels that we couldn't help at the time, and this is a way of returning something to them, even if not personally.

Pippi beat me to it.

I've given to TEWFI in the past and have attended a couple of their fundraising programs.

I think they're about as legitimate as they come and, the donations are tax deductible here.

Cheers
