Anything is possible here .

ISTR there have even been such scandals about "respectable" agencies.

I don't know about the news item that you guys are referring to, but any such thing must be absolutely devastating to all involved.

Most adoption between Indians here seems fairly informal. I don't know, personally, of extra-family situations, but intra-family (oh dear, what horrid jargon --- but I guess its is accurate) adoptions of the nature of who can afford to bring up a child, or even you lost your baby, I've got three, you have one of mine seems to happen quite regularly.

I suppose it isn't many miles away from the Western situation of a child discovering that their 'mother' is actually their elder sister or their granny...

Please Help!

Dear Mary,

As you mentioned that you are involved with In-Country Adoptions.

I like to have some information regards to In-Country Adoptions.

Let me introduce myself, I am Indian Born US citizen with OCI and my wife is US Born Citizen. We are thinking to go for In-Country Adoption in India where it requires for us to live 2 yearsin India after taking the custody of the child.

1. Are we eligible for In-country adoption since I am Indian Born US citizen with OCI Card and my wife is US Born Citizen with PIO Card?

2.Once we moved there what next steps we need to take like registration with CARA etc.

Any guidance will be of great help!

You can write me to my email sunilkanth79@yahoo.com

Thanks
Sunil

As there is such a broad variety of people visiting this wonderful website, I figure perhaps every now and then there may be people perhaps visiting who have adoption/guardianship of orphaned Indian children in mind.

I'll be happy to help where I can with the expertise that I have available. Perhaps I can help some avoid the pitfalls and mistakes that take up so much time in these applications. I'll be very honoured to assist where I can.
