Hi, I'm a Thai/Mongolian female 22yrs old and looking to go to Nepal and participate in volunteer program in Nepal. Has anybody here ever heard about this org "VCD Nepal" ??? And also i heard that Nepal doesn't allow a solo female traveler/tourist visa into their border/country? But what if by direct flight from Bangkok to Kathmandu ?!! I ain't scared to travel alone I went to India with my mom n I did most of the research n indiamike has been a good help for sources of info but my mother got scared n she doesn't want me to volunteer in India so I chose Nepal instead. Please help this amatuer traveller. Big thanks!!!

I am not aware of any such restriction. Why don't you ask the Nepalese Embassy in your home Country? Lots of foreigners travel first to India and then cross over by the land route to Nepal at the Sunauli or Raxaul or Kakarbhitta border towns. The Nepalese visa used to cost 30 USD and some passport sized photographs back in 2003. I don't know the current cost... (I am guessing here...) ...it can't be more than 50 USD or so. A secret: If you look like your photo on IndiaMike, you could be mistaken for a Sikkimese or Assamese or Meghalaya resident (NE Indians). In which case the border cops won't even give you a second look because Indians are allowed into Nepal without any visa. Many poor Indian women labourers cross over to Nepal every day (and back) without even getting a second look. But you probably can't speak Hindi and you look like a rich person, so there is a chance of some border official asking you questions, which you will not be able to answer in Hindi Here's wishing you land up in Nepal without any trouble. All the best and Happy Travelling . .
