Donations of household goods, clothing, foodstuffs
Hey,
I am leaving Chennai soon and I have a collection of stuff that I can't or don't need to take with me. Does anyone have links with a reputable charity who could use donated household goods? I so far have some comfortable chairs, linen, blankets, a bench top oven (only 6 months old), an assortment of kitchen things, etc. All of it is in very good condition, and most is less than 12 months old. I don't know anything about these people, apart from having visited their shop:
REMAR 4/1 VOC Street, East Coast Road, Injambakkam, Chennai 41. 9884310603 www.remar.org.

Donations etc.
Hi Gertie,
Am in chennai right now having visited a shelter for young children in Pondicherry. I was really impressed with their work. They have cows thus milk and bio gas; grow their own vegetables and fruits and are very self sufficient. What they lack is support from the rest of the world. There are a few Dutch on the support group (that is how I came in) but these are very dedicated people. I am sure all that you would like to give could be used by these people. May I be bold enough to post their address here?!?? Mr Srikanth & Mrs Rany Soorya Udayam Illam Mariamman Koil Street, Odhiyampattu Village & P O Villianur Commune, Pondicherry - 605110 Tel: 0413 65 31 463 / 0413 26 67 497 Mob: 9362643211 / 9362643454 empowerment@vsnl.net (is their email address) There is a Dutch lady, Alice, who visits Chennai often. She would be more that pleased to take the stuff with her or perhaps if time permits you could visit this place. Good luck with your decision. Thanks. |

I can't vouch for these guys, but I've been in touch with them in the past and they seemed worthwhile to me: AID India (Association for India's Development).
Anyway you've got some good tips above, just thought I'd leave this.

Please contact The Banyan in Chennai. They are a shelter for homeless women, very reputable.
I have donated my clothes to them, and it sounds like what you have they could use, at least the linens and blankets.

I can vouch for the Banyan in Chennai. It's in Annanagar. They help women with psychological problems.
