do you want to do this just for kicks or is this a commercial venture. it needs a lot of financial backing to "preserve the musical heritage" of 8 states.

hmm ok... i can refer your to one person who could really help you with some suggestions... in fact he could be of help to you in more ways than one, since he has extensively covered the (rock) music scene of north east india...he lives in kolkata and is a journalist working for a magazine called...."Rolling Stone"

Is this primarily folk music or more contemporary youth driven content that you will be focusing on?

well,PEAK VX,its purely folk music..the goal is to create a database of all the folk instruments of the various tribes of the region along with sound samples..and also to create awareness targeting the youth on the need of preserving the rich musical heritage of the region..

I think India Today's "Music Today" label has a fabulous collection of folk and traditional music from all over India already, that could certainly do with expanding. Not to discourage you or to suggest that the more voices wouldn't be the merrier, but maybe you could have a word with them, perhaps you could find some common grounds: http://www.music-today.com/

I'm curious to know what you mean by the "eighth" state btw. Sikkim, perhaps?
