Clean Ganga Campaign
Hi All,
I had the privilege of meeting Dr.Veer Bhadra Mishra of Sankat Mochan Foundation which is working towards cleaning of ganga at Varanasi and ensuring that sewage is not let untreated in to the holy river which is the life line for millions of people. You can find more information on their website http://www.swatchaganga.com/ Cheers, Aparajith |

A good start would be to not allow thousands of people to bath with non-biodegradable soap everyday. And don't throw dead babies in also.
I'm suprised that there's any life in there. I actually saw dolphins there in 1991. ![]() |

Last year I saw many fishes just in the area in front of the main ghat, and I really could not believe it. Someone states that Ganga’s water is believed holy also because of this reason, I think it is an amazing point of view, but nothing more, unfortunately. Starting from Ganga, appealing to her holiness, could be a startegic trigger to spread the importance of environmental issue all around India |

Mahantji is indeed
a wonderful man. I met him in April of '06 at the four day music festival held yearly at the temple. His work to raise awareness of the plight of the Ganges, as well as the work he has instigated to clean the river around Varanasi is commendable.
Ganga Ma is an enigma . . . polluted, absolutely . . . pure, to the Hindu mind, absolutely. When I bathe in the Ganges, and I did numerous times during my stay, I bathe in Hindu's Ganges and have never had a problem. This of course is not to say that work must continue to clean her up . . . just good karma, maybe Having spent six months of last year in Varanasi (and mornings at Tulsi Ghat) I too saw fish being caught . . . saw dolphin . . . perhaps all of us passing through Varanasi, especially those who go to India to do non-profit work, could spend some days helping Mahantji, and the Ganges. Nice link. Thank you for sharing. Scott
