emmac82, have you sent your application form in? The first thing anyone should do when wanting to volunteer for CWT (Children Walking Tall), is check the Volunteer Calendar to see if we have places available when you want to come. (keep checking back as people do drop out). Then if there is a free space when you're wanting to volunteer then fill in the online application form. There's lots of information about volunteering so please read as much as possible so you know what we do and what we need. best of luck
birds, thanks for the message, I think I'll be here for the forseable future as it's a great experience, although it can get a bit much sometimes, as it's crazily hard work. Many people think it's easy - far from it... Anyway, thanks for your support Rob www.ChildrenWalkingTall.com |

Things have been going quite well recently, we have opened our doors to the children, got around 70 children in school, started 10 with swimming lessons (it's suprising how proud you can be when you see them swimming in the big pool within 20 lessons... Then concerned as the instructor throws them (literaly) in the deep end (Indian Teachers!
) As well as all the good things we have had two children diagnosed with Malaria and one nearly had heart failure due to an extremely low blood count... But all have been treated and are recovering. Thankfully!Anyway, just thought I'd let everyone know we're still here just a bt on the busy side... I'm hoping to get the newsletter out very shortly (Aiming on this week) so keep an eye out for it (Children Walking Tall - Charity Helping Street Children and Slum Children in Goa, India - Charity Newsletters |

Thanks all, well we got the newsletter out finally, if you want to read the direct link is here June Newsletter for CWT
I hope we're making a difference as now we are finding out more and more things from the families we help. Unfortunately not always nice things, just yesterday we heard about a girl who's been to the Mango House and we've helped out. She went to her village possibly 2/3 months ago with her family and in the last few days she has thrown petrol on herself and set alight to it.... Thankfully she is alive and in hospital, I just hope she will be OK.... |

Sorry for the lack of news... As always things are non stop here.. I went to the UK for a month (in the middle of June) and since I got back Shermina also went back for a month so have been looking after the charity (with the help of some great volunteers (and staff). She will be back shortly, she's actually back in Inida but is spending some time in Mumbai I think before coming back down.... It really has been busy, but generally things are going well, the children are enjoying school and swimming lessons have started again. Had some start music lessons (guitar / Bells / Ocarinas), it's great..
Managed to get up a new set of photos today too... My favourite is the girl with the electric Blue eyes! - They were stunning! Latest Photos Thanks Rob |

Well I have finally had chance to go through some of the photos that we took over the Christmas Holidays. For those of you who don't know we aim to give out as many wrapped presents as possible during Christmas, this year we gave out 1000 presents to children in the slums dotted around Goa and the last few in Mumbai. It's never an easy job but I would like to thank all the volunteers who helped, Ali (Santa), Saroja and Savita (the Staff) and the helpers we had along the way including Carol & Tony, Subash and Friend who helped give them out, which is far from an easy job at times. Another huge thank you to everyone who worked so hard wrapping up the presents, visitors, volunteers and friends and family - THANK YOU!
Lucy, A Volunteer sat in the middle of some of the presents... http://www.childrenwalkingtall.com/Gif/Presents.jpg The Presents were handed out on Friday (South Goa), Saturday (Around Old Goa, Panjim), Sunday (Mapusa, Canca and Sinquerium) and Monday (Slums Near The Mango House) and finally on CHristmas day to 'OUR' children. I have updated two sets of photos from the first two days of present giving, use the link below to view the photos.... http://www.childrenwalkingtall.com/Pictures.htm _________________ Thanks, Rob - http://www.ChildrenWalkingTall.Com |

Federica,
Glad you liked the photos and I have to say the Mango Huose has improved so much over the last two years... Did you see the 'old' pictures...? As it's an old Portuguese house it always needs more work (unfortunately), the house owners will be seeing it for the first time shortly, so that will be interesting to see, I wonder what they'll think of it. They've seen pictures but pictures never do it justice... I've hadded another set of photos so feel free to have a peak http://www.childrenwalkingtall.com/Pictures.htm Also found this from last year... http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=61302265125731 12232 Last edited by poipleshadow : Jan 20th, 2008 at 12:11. Reason: Added a link to the Christmas video from last year... |

I can imagine that the house needs a lot of maintanance. But these old Portuguese houses have a great atmosphere, and children are mostly open to feel this difference. So I wish that you'll always have enough people who support the maintanance of the Mango house! And I am almost sure that the owners will like it and be proud of it
