charity
Hi all. I have recently sponsored a child from theSOS Childrens village in Alwaye Cochin Kerala. Does anyone know of this charity or has visited the village at Alwaye?. The website and written info I've received sounds great. Just interested if anyone has personal experience. Namaste

I've heard good things about them although never been myself, I might like to visit sometime and see how they run, migt give me a new angle for my project... I think your donation will be well spent.

Hi Rob. Thanks. If you do visit could you e-mail me and maybe you could take a gift to the little girl I am sponsoring?. I could send you the cash and you could buy the gift. My e-mail is JJFFRANCIS@HOTMAIL.COM. Namaste John

John,
Have no clue when I'd get chance to visit, although I am meaning to visit another couple of places in Kerela? So might as well try and do all at once. On the gift side, I run a place in Goa and to be honest if they run a similar setup to us we try and avoid giving present directly to children as it can encourage favouritism and might make the children want more sponsors as there's a chance of more presents.. Also for those without sponsors then do they get nothing? A better thing would be to sponsor something for the whole group so it doesn't concentrate on one child. I know we all have favourites but we have to go past our feelings and think of theirs... ~(don't mean to preach...) I would prefer that cash isn't sent to me (as I could be anyone), but if I do go down I would be happy to 'check in' on anyone... (make sure they're being looked after...) Hope that makes sense Thanks Rob |

Hi Rob, Thanks for replying. You're right about the gifts. After reading the charities literature they say the same thing. If you do get down to the village, the littlegirls name is CHRISTINA BENNY VATTATHARIL. Give her my love and sat hello from myself and my wife Pat. Thanks again. Namaste JOHN
