Banyan/Dr. Samuel
I have some time coming up in Chennai and last year told myself I would make The Banyan a priority. Has anyone been to The Banyan? If so, I would love to hear. The other place I want to visit is Dr. Samuel's HIV/AIDS clinic in Chennai. Anyone know of it or where it is located?

Banyan
Thanks yogagal. Beautiful entry. Yes, I had heard that it was a place of heartbreak and a powerful heart. I had heard that there were women there that included some who had walked from the north, suffering much before they were found on the streets and brought to Banyan.
I am also very interested in the fact that you were flying solo. I too will be by myself for the most part and am wondering how it will be for a woman traveling solo. How was that for you? But Banyan- it sounds like a place not to be missed. Where is it? How did you come to visit there? Can I just show up? |

indiadreamer, their website link is in that thread. I suggest calling them first, which is what I did, that way someone will be there to greet you (I had lots of clothes and toiletries to donate.)
Where I stayed in Chennai (Mylapore), it was about an hour's rickshaw ride, south I think, out in the suburbs, so to speak. How I came to be there was through auntyji, another IM member. Her college friend was one of the women who started the Banyan, and as I say in my post, I do karma yoga at a women's shelter, so that is where my heart is. as for my traveling solo, I would not do it any other way. I love it. go to the Chennai forum and read my other threads about my trip just this past March..... |
