Attention all dog lovers 2!
Hi Guys and greetings from Indore!!
I posted this first on the olde TT as Indiamike had "nodded off" for a while.
Anyways to save time I'll just copy and paste it here (cyber cafes are a bit slow ya know what I mean)
Most of you who have visited Goa's beaches are probably acutely aware
of the stray dog problem along the touristed coastline.
Well help is at hand, in the shape of The International Animal Rescue, Goa!
These wonderful people are doing their level best to do something
about the problem in a humane and practical manner.
As well as providing a cheap vetrinary surgery at Assagao, Bardez Goa,
they are also providing roving clinics to nuture dogs and provide them
with food and love during the recovery period. The cost of the
operation plus food for the recovery period costs only 600 Rupees.
The dogs are then returned to the territories where they were found
this prevents new dogs moving in to replace them.
This program will hopefully in the years to come alleviate the
suffering caused by a burgeoning population of "beach dogs" whilst
maintaining a healthy resident population that the beach can sustain.
In Palolem they had such a clinic last week where I believe nearly 100
dogs were nutured, a small number but out of little acorns............
If your interested in helping out either by cash donation or as a
volunteer to walk the dogs during their recuperation you can contact
them directly at
info@iar.org.uk
or visit their website to make a donation
http://www.iar.org.uk/india/goa.shtml
If you're in Palolem you can contact Jackie directly at the Sea View
Hotel, Patnem. She will let you know where and when the next clinic
will take place in Palolem and perhaps she can furnish you with info
about clinics elsewhere in Goa.
This is a very worth while cause that will make a huge impact on the
life of the "beach dogs" of Goa, so do what you can and let's try and
turn this problem around!!!

When i was near Colva the GAWT (Goa Animal Welfare Trust) were also doing the same thing. They also visit the dogs 3 times a week in Monsoon to feed them and they vaccinate against Rabies at the start of every season.
A most worthwhile cause.

This is wonderful news that something is being done for the animals, particularly the dogs, in Goa. Hopefully this will spread to the rest of India where dogs definitely don't have a good life. A major seva project, what what rewards!
This is WOW as far as I'm concerned and I'm sure the volunteers will be rewarded 100x over for their compassion and caring. Good for you!!!
And not idle chatter, I wish I could do something to help

Happiness is for those who cry, those who hurt, those who have searched and those who have tried. For only they can appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives. (Anon.)
Good news indeed! I have noticed quite a few dogs with an 'animal rescue' collar on the past couple of winters and salute their effort.
The problem of aggressive beach dogs on Arambol beach was pretty well solved a few years ago by a couple of concerned 'regulars' by rounding up stray female dogs and having them spayed. Joggers no longer need to carry a club with them on their morning run!

Thanks for all the positive responses! Oldhippie the GAWT was approached about the problem in Palolem but they are overrun with their business elswhere in Goa and were unable to help at the moment.
It's true that IAR donations can be used anywhere but they have similar programs in Agra amongst others and the lady collecting in Palolem assured us that those donations at least were to be used for the Goa program. The donations made through their website may be used elsewhere though I've no problem with that there are deserving cases the world over! So perhaps a donation directly at Assagao or to Jackie at the seaview Patnem will assure that the funds are used locally!!
Of course the GAWT should be supported as well!!! Anybody helping with this problem should be supported both with donations of money or time!!
Thanks! and dig deep one nutering operation costs around about the same as a night out in Goa so miss a night and help a dog!!
