Any stutterers/SLPs on IndiaMike?

Hi,

Mods: This is not a spam. TISA is a non-profit organization for stutterers/stammerers. I am posting this on their behalf, for the benefit of stutterers on this site.

We are a group of Indian PWS( People Who Stutter). Through our own experience and other people's, we have learnt that self-help groups can play a very important role in overcoming stuttering.

Therapy can only make us fluent in a controlled environment, but to implement it in real life we have to practice it with real people and that's where self-help groups come into play.

TISA co-ordinates city-wise self-help groups and also gives a platform to discuss and share your problems.

Please visit www.stammer.in and register yourself. In addition to SHG (self-help group) activities, you'll also find many other resources there.

Regards

Nitin

Nice site, ntomer.

Nope, I don't stutter, but somebody very close to me does.

Thanx capt_mahajan,

I've stuttered all my life and know the feelings of pain, helplessness, shame and self-hatred a stutterer goes through.

I've tried many different speech therapies but what benefited me most was a self-help group.

This web site is an attempt from me to help fellow stutterers. Please guide your acquaintance to this site.

Regards

Nitin

I am a SLP, but I will only be visiting in India for 2 weeks. I was interested in your post and like the idea of support groups. Fluency is a difficult area of therapy, but practicing techniques in social groups is a great way to gain confidence in speaking fluently.

Dear Hockey16,

Thanx for your interest.

Even if you can spare 1 hour while you are in India and join one of our self help group meetings, it'll be great.

Currently TISA runs SHGs in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Surat and Dehradun. You can come to any of the places which suits you best.

Thanks and Regards

Nitin

TISA Totally endorses it..

Dear Hockey16
I totally endorse Nitin's idea..
As some one coordinating TISA, I totally agree with Nitin, that some one like you could do a lot of good work in one hour at any of our groups as a visiting volunteer..

I should mention that I am a specialist in child language development, but I do also work with children with dysfluency. I am interested in meeting with a group during my stay. If a group is not meeting during my stay, I would be happy to practice fluency skills in English with TISA members in Chennai. I will be there the first week of August. I am arriving in Delhi on the July 27, but am traveling with a relative. I do not know what she has planned for our time near Delhi. Then I will fly to Chennai. I looked at the TISA website for contacts. What is the best way to make contact?

Hi,

We have weekly meetings of Chennai chapter on Sundays and of Delhi chapter on Saturdays. You are welcome to join any of them.

You can contact either me (nitin@stammer.in) or Sachin (satksri@gmail.com) for more details.

If you can send me your contact details, I'll ask Manimaran, our Chennai chapter co-ordinator to contact you.

Regards

Nitin

Dear Hockey 16
Yes, you can contact Nitin / myself anytime. But since time is short, I would suggest, contact Mr Manimaran (Coordinator Chennai group) and others too. I will email him about you. These are the three key people who would respond fast and facilitate your inputs in Chennai

Mr Manimaran (0) 9884289989 (maran_450@yahoo.com)
Mr Sivasubramanian (0) 9940280073
Mr Vishal Dadha (0) 9791157911 (vishaldadha@yahoo.com)

English will be understood by them..
