Worth going to varanasi in July?

I read something about many of the ghats being unavailable due to the ganges overflowing? Is this the case? Would you recommend going to Varanasi in July then?

One of my biggest dreams in life is to go to Varanasi, and finally the opportunity both financially and timewise is here.

Tips please

Thank you so much!

Tim

Go and enjoy. I think you can not predict how high the water will be, depends on how strong the monsoon will be this year and how much it has been raining once you get there.
If it's been your dream to go there, just go and take it as it comes.

Tim, I recommend going to Varanasi at any time. I'm more than a fan of Varanasi, having spent over a year there over two trips (six months at a time)(along with a six day stop in 1989). I finally spent a monsoon there - I went specifically for monsoon - in 2006, was there from February through August. Typically the river really doesn't rise DRAMATICALLY til August or so. The rain that year didn't really begin in earnest til July. The only water I was worried about was replacing the water that was flowing - and a Gangian flow it was - from every pore on my body . . . heat/humidity were over the top. Keep your fluid intake up. GREAT thunder/lightning storms during monsoon too. Great time to go . . . just a little hot. Safe Travels P.S. It takes an exceptional rain year for the ghats to be completely covered. And, each one is fairly different as far as how high up the steps go from the river. It's a Dream Tim . . . Go!
