Varanasi: Things to experience at night...?
Guess we'll be wandering Sarnath a lot by day - being Buddhists - and drinking in the Ganges vibe a lot while we are there mid Feb. But are there good things to do at night in Varanasi?
I guess one can linger over dinner till late, but if there were some Classical music or regular temple or river ceremonies that would be nice to know about..... Last edited by machadinha : Jan 24th, 2008 at 15:43. Reason: adjusted title |

I recommend to stay near Godowlia and Dasaswamedh Ghat - there you are in the middle of all, close to all interesting sites, market and restaurants.
Ganges boat trip: you can do it early in the morning which is worth it. Dont be scared if you see a dead body floating ![]() There are some cheap and good indian restaurants where you can have some good indian food. A stroll down the ghats in the night and you might see the bodies burning. If you are lucky there might be some cultural programmes going on where they pray to the ganges with lots of lamps, lit in thousands. |

hi tomkat, i seem to remember that when i was there we saw many flyers advertising local concerts, usually that day, or fairly soon.
there's the night ceremony at the main ghat which i watched from the balcony of my guest house, it seemed fairly impressive. |
