Varanasi - taxi from airport

I am told by my hotel (Sita guest house) that I can pay 500r for a ride from the airport to the main city. Is this correct? Seems high. Maybe the airports way out or something. Please inform if you know the approx price. Thanks! Leaving in two weeks to the day, im so charged, it doesn't seem real!

to Asi Ghat? Are there pre-paid Taxis?
How are the temperatures day and evening?

From Varanasi Airport to Asi Ghat we paid a taxi driver R450 (a little over US$1).

There is a pre-paid taxi stand just outside the airport: look to your front-left as you leave the terminal.

In the winter -- December or January, say -- you'll be comfortable in a long-sleeved shirt during the day, but will want a light jacket or sweater at night.

You can't really get a taxi "to Assi Ghat". Drivers will
take you to the perimeter of the Old City and drop you
off on Dasashwamedha Ghat road. From there you will need
to negotiate a ride with an auto-rickshaw to Assi Ghat.
Depending on how much stuff you're lugging - cost should
be around Rs 20-25 depending on your bargaining skills.

Autoreeckshaw should cost around 150 rs to the old city if you bargain a little.

What are you talking about? One would never take an autorickshaw all the way from the airport to the old city. You'd have to be crazy! It would take three hours. From the airport you take a pre-paid taxi to the edge of the Old City and then take a bicycle rickshaw to the ghat where you are staying. Rickshaw shouldn't cost more than Rs 25.

My friend and I are traveling from Bali to Deli and then on to the Golden Triangle. Should we take an A/C bus from Deli to Triangle or just a taxi?

Also, does anyone know which airport we should can take from the Golden Triangle area to Kerala?

I don't see why you'll have to get off on Dasashwamedha Ghat road to go to Assi Ghat. I was staying in a hotel on Assi Ghat in March. A car tok us from the hotel to the station. Actually no transport will drop you right on any ghat. but a taxi will take you very close to Assi Ghat.

I only paid 5 rubles becuse I played the didgeridoo in the taxi over the top of my pocket speakers blasting trance music. I was taught how to do this by an aboriginal.

Hey,I guess you are being rightly charged.
Airport is around 25kms from the old city & anything from Rs400 to Rs500 seems ok,go ahead its fine.

I have taken the local taxi from the airport numerous times and it has slowly increased over the years. Currently from the airport to Godowlia / Church Crossing (near Dasashwamedh) or to Assi Ghat it is Rs. 450... about $10 at Rs. 45 to 1 USD. They are right outside the gate as you exit. Rates are written on the stand.

You can also get a private taxi for Rs.100/- extra right inside the terminal.

A couple of days ago I took a taxi from Assi Ghat to the airport. The cost was Rs. 500 and it took more than an hour -- apart from the normal traffic and confusion, there is a detour on the main road going into the airport.
