We had dinner at Fuji Ganga in the Old Town twice.. It was OK and certainly not expensive, and as the fat surplus for us: they had live music.
P.S. If you walk from the main ghat back over the market, you can find it easily from the first street on your right into the old town.. And, btw, people tend to know where it is too, so just ask! |

You have to go to Madhur Milan 6 rp for 2 samosas and a chick pea curry. Walk to the main ghat and then up into the market .. you cant miss it...
Also good is the chinese/tibetan place in the chowk ( I cant remember the name atm ..will check my diary later and give you the details) it is in a courtyard just of the main road .. very comfortable lounges to look at the goings on. |

The Bread of Life restaurant aims to serve good food in hygienic conditions for a decent price. Seems to be always good and I can vouch for the pancakes.

The restaurant with the blue marquee appears to meet your needs.

That is Apsara restaurant with the blow awning. I wouldn't recomend their food but across the street Mona Lisa which is also in the picture has great chinese.
There are quite a few good places to eat in Varanasi. Can you be more specific of what you are looking for? |

Close to Fuji Ganga Rest. you can also get some good food at German Bakery and with live music too.
Jorge Another good and expensive restaurant in front of the river is: Dolphin Roof Top Restaurant in Rashmi Guest House in Man Mandir Ghat with a very nice views and chilled beer. |

Try these . . .
The Kerala Cafe, really good south Indian food, the dosa rocks . . . tired of Indian food? . . . try the Vaatika at Asi Ghat, really great spinach and cheese ravioli, great wood fired pizza, the vegetable lasagna is great too

Thanks cyberbaba . . .
didn't do my homework on this one. But I LOVED your reply to the pantelis posting you made me aware of . . . I've eaten at the Vaatika numerous times and never had a problem ( and I thought the original post was about food, not bathrooms or cows, sorry pantelis) . . . but I do stick with the Kerala Cafe recommendation . . . I've never seen a cow in it, or above it . . . bon appetite!

thanks darmabum. i think most of us understand that it's important to keep a sense of humor about things no matter how bizzare they can get. for me it's definitely part of the fun of travelling/ living in india.
nice pick on the kerala cafe. coconut chutney is truely one of my best friends. ![]() |
