Varanasi airport to Ganges view guesthouse at Assi Ghat
Do taxi's from the airport go the the ganges guesthouse at the Assi Ghat? I've read that the taxis drop you off at the autorickshaw station, then you have to get the autorickshaw to the ghats but we have 2 quite large suitcases so I don't think this will be possible. However I'm sure I also read somewhere that because the Assi Ghat is at the beginning a taxi is possible. Can anyone confirm this for me.
We could also leave our luggage at the airport and take a bag with us but are there left luggage facilities at the airport? |

Hi Maxi,
Yes a taxi is able to drive you all the way to Assi Ghat as the road is wide enough. The narrow "galis" are elsewhere in the old town of Varanasi. So, no worries, you can take all your luggage directly from the airport to the hotel by cab.

Even though the road at Assi Ghat is wider than the lanes in the old city, taxis were not supposed to go all the way down the lane to the Ganges View Hotel when I was last there, which was four years ago. They were supposed to go only as far the corner where the Palace on Ganges Hotel is located, and the Ganges View Hotel is a few buildings farther along toward the end of the road. It's not very far, but you should check to see whether your driver would be willing to help you carry your bags if you think they're too heavy. But as I said, it's not far from the corner where the taxis are supposed to stop so unless the bags are enormous, you should be able to manage! I'm trying to remember whether auto-rickshaws, as distinct from regular taxis, are allowed on the lane. I think they are, but I can't actually remember. I suspect the reason full-sized vehicles aren't supposed to go down the lane is that it dead ends and there's no place for them to turn around, so they'd have to back up the whole way - and given all the people walking on the lane, they'd probable kill about a dozen pedestrians!
